Fun fact: Rates are opinions. To call someone neg-rating you a"griefer" is just silly.

So how would you feel if you could not neg rate people?

I would have thought that if neg rating were griefing it wouldn't be built in. One is allowed to express a preference on someone's appearance, behaviour and building skills - except that one isn't - as it's taboo.

Why is it taboo? - because there is loot involved. Like positive rating, negative rating appears to come in threes. One could get a negative for building without having to show that you can't rez a cube.

Negative rating is so taboo that whole threads can appear from nowhere if someone receives one.

^Freedom of opinion? AHAHAHAH surely you jest?

Honestly? I wouldn't care.

If some one was acting the arsehole I'd call 'em and arsehole.

Well..neg rating someone as an opinion is fine. Mass or mob neg rating someone just to be arseholes would, of course, be an abuse of the ratings system and pretty damn lame.

I think you have a great idea there. Let's drop neg rates. Then when you call someone names, or intentionally piss someone off, there will be no BS hiding behind the rating system and the name callers can be dealt with and the content creators can get on with business.

I dislike a lot of people, so I neg rate. It's simple, and easy, it doesn't need to lead to griefing or name calling, even, you just voice your opinion about someone, then move on!

Also, Jack, I think the only reason you dislike neg rates is because you have so many

Actually I am kinda disappointed. After the thread about W Hats this morning, I went to the temp WA to see if any of the group would show up to neg rate me. Only 2 came, and I only got 3 negs between them. You 2 still owe me 3 more.

Well I think that going around randomly announcing your dislike to someone who is probably at the time totally happy and having fun IS the griefing.

From: someone

Saying that was griefing too.

Griefer.

1. Lindens do take neg rates into account when applying policy. Or, moreover, they "don't not". So, if you do have a lot of negs, it -could- affect the outcome of an abuse report.

2. Negs may be an opinion, but they absolutely do have an effect on a resident's viability in SL, if not just for the fact that they *are* monetarily punished by accumulating them. So while they are seen as an opinion, they are applied as if they are fact.

It would be all the same to me if the entire ratings system was removed.
