To those who seek new places to visit in SL, how do you find them?

Oddly enough, Something will strike me as cool and I'll do a search in game on a keyword. Yesterday I thought boxing would be cool...

I found a lot of places to check out whenever I open the profile of someone who made a cool build. Sometimes they bother to list other cool places to visit in their picks.

Yup. That can be a fun way.
![]() I do a lot of things: -search for keywords of interest in Find -- sometimes they don't return desired results, but I'll go off on an adventurous tangent -Jillian Callahan made a scripted "random rocket" I use -- it blasts you from one sim to another far, far away. I went from the Morris Building Area to Ano's at Mavericks in a few minutes. ![]() -check forums to scope out what's new and happenin', yo -check the Top Picks every now and then. Not updated on a spastic basis, but I'm mindful that even then, some of the places themselves change a lot -listen to word of mouth from friends -also read the news like New World Notes and Second Life Herald and see if anything's up -start exploring in all sorts of ways. By foot, by flying, or on a vehicle (usually aerial for longterm journeys since sim crossings annoy me) -look to the left at all the private islands and see which ones are new and that I haven't been to (yet) -look for tall columns of green dots on the map, usually signifying a popular event at a club, perhaps a club I haven't been to before -what Lash said -etc. (I do wish there was a "Teleport to random location" button. )_____________________

I check out peoples Picks on their profiles. I've found quite a few nifty areas I wouldn't otherwise have stumbled across. Jungle-themed grotto type retreats, roman baths, intricate builds..
Doing a Find for a random phrase in Places sometimes brings up something interesting as well. _____________________

I do the same thing, Jonquille. I also just fly around a lot aimlessly. I love to explore.

Just hop on the Torley Train... however, the only fare he takes is watermelon-flavored microchips.

I don't usually visit anywhere new in SL unless I see something about it on the forums.
SL doesn't feel very inviting anymore so I don't go many places beyond Phobos, Bolinas, or Clyde. |

I do it either by word of mouth (forums, people, top picks), or random wandering. Random wandering is much more fun because you find little unknown great peices of work.
![]() Sometimes I'll also look at New Objects on the map looking for interisting or large configurations to see whats being built there. _____________________

When I look at peoples profiles I always check thier 'Picks', if anything looks interesting I landmark it. Every week or so I go through and explore my new landmarks.

I use the dartboard approach: open the map, click on someplace and teleport. The map is now big enough that it usually yields something new.
Top picks and even directory listings are often out of date if they are more than a week old - pretty dynamic world. |

Garth and I do a lot of cruising, sometimes testing a new vehicle to see how it fares. Sometimes just take a sail boat, or a balloon to see what is new in the world and who we might run into. My favorite vehicle for these jaunts is the paddle wheel. We get to see a lot of neat builds that way. I started posting pics of some of them in the "Gallery"

In all seriousness, when I want to find new places I get into the ol' Hulk av with scripted superjump (sans french maid costume) and I try and jump across the world.... it's a lot more fun than flying (landing on roofs - running across - relaunching) and I get to see a lot of new and cool stuff (albeit by crashing into it).
Sometimes I land in the middle of a group of ppl, scream HULK SMASH PUNY HUMANS, and jump off again quickly. Siggy. _____________________

Depends on the moments, but mostly:
- Word of mouth - Randomly flying/walking around - Picks in people's profiles - Forums (when people post pic of a build, or write "I'm reworking my build X", etc) - Sometimes, palces mentioned in blogs _____________________

Nobody uses the Registry? ah wellI use the Registry, and I bet others do to! ![]() Please keep it going! In fact, I originally was going to list the Registry as one of the options (along with New World Notes and other sites that often featured places to visit), but I was limited to 10 options so I consolodated the webpages into one choice. Also, I should have made it more clear that it was ok to check more than one choice on the survey. _____________________
