Right, so, stupid question about super-stealthy groups...

So I'm building out in Westport, and I'm staring directly across the barren plane of that sim, and every once in a while, while fishing for building ideas, i randomly click on objects and see who owns them.

So I'm right next to a bunch of for sale plots owned by a group called Dreamland. No biggie, always wondered who was in Dreamland... so I right click on the for sale sign, and go to "edit"... I see it's owned by <insert avatar name here>, part of group Dreamland.

So I go to group search, search for Dreamland... nothing comes up. No biggie, I know you can hide groups from searches.

BUT.

If you go to the aforementioned avatar's profile, the Dreamland group DOES NOT SHOW UP.

Hrm.

I've noticed this in a few folk's profiles... not to pick on Dreamland's members or anything, because various other groups have done it too. They're just a convenient example as I'm banging out this post.

Now, if I have my own group, and I uncheck the "show in group list" and "show members in group list" buttons... anyone can still see, if they click on a member's profile, that so-and-so belongs to such-and-such a group, not only that, but see if they're a member or an officer. Just like any other group they belong to, private or not.

So... what option do I have to check in order to have a "super-stealthy" group? Is this something you ask the Lindens? Is it a bug that's exploited? What the dilly-yo?

You see whatever groups you are in when you look at your profile, as do other people who are in the same groups. If the group is unlisted, only members see it in each other's profile, it does not appear at all for non-members. If you look in my profile, you don't see Midnight Land Trust, but I see it in my own profile when I look at it, as well as Taeja's.

if you hide your group and members then you will be super stealthy. the only people who will see who's in the group are the people in the group.

of course objects from group projects will still carry the name of the original creator so there is still ways to find out who's in a project oriented group.

okay that's why people argue with me when i tell them i don't have any group space available. they don't see all my land groups. i always thought they just couldn't count. i suppose they think i'm starkers too. i suppose i'll have to start playing with an alt and then nobody'll know it's me ha ha ha.
