Don't they usually at least wait until the next year to have a "day" for statesman?
Do we have a FDR day? JFK Day? I know the anniversary of JFK's death is observed as are the birthdays of Washington and Lincoln, but does Reagan warrant his own day and on such short notice? I tried to go to the bank and post office and I find out I can't because it's Reagan day?
I do not know for a fact that it's "Reagan Day", just going by what some people said at the post office... Can anyone clarify or expand on this? Does anyone know if this is actually going to be a federal holiday from now on?

As much as I dearly wish to reply, I work in News, and thus must abstain.
(anyone who has even LOOKED at a TV in the last 5 days should understand my reasons).
I will say though: A good point Nolan, and I'm glad someone brought it up.
Siggy.

Friday, June 11 2004 was declared a national day of mourning for Reagan. Federal employees got the day off. As far as I can tell, this was a one day observance. I don't see it becoming a holiday.

There is an (unscientific) call in poll going on for the 11pm News tonight on the subject of replacing Alexanander Hamilton on the 10 dollar bill... thus far 61% No and 39% Yes.
To tell the truth that seems a worthwhile way to honor someone -- maybe reintroduce the $2 bill in a limited run as they did in 1976 (is that right.. I found one in 1977 - but I assume it was for 1976).
*shrug*

At this point, everyone who wants to rename and change stuff in honor of Reagan should pause and wait a decade. Let a few years pass and allow for new and otherwise forgotten facts to rise to the surface. Then, decide if the 2nd most polarizing president ever deserves any of it.
Lets all remember the FBI headquarters they named after J Edgar Hoover. If we knew then what we know now about him, would they have named a building after him?
Edited for a minor typo.

Just so you know, some state employees and schools got the day off too... the State of California was one of them. (:
I know a lot of the Legislators were going to fly to DC on Friday to attend the funeral.
