Ok a friend of mine found out that you can be banned for mentioning names, the hard way. It was in a thread giving public thanks. I would like to help others and ensure they do not also get suspended. Do not post names, no happy birthday threads, no so and so has nice clothes, no hey i loved your build so and so. Obviously these are against the forum rules. I am just trying to help you guys out. For advanced reading please check /120/7a/35213/1.html

Ran out of threads to troll in making your point?

I support your position, billy. I'm very disappointed to see them ban you for posting what is clearly a congratulatory thread. In law, it is critical to avoid dogmatic adherence to rules and to instead consider the individual's intent. In this situation the intent was not to personally attack the individuals but instead to congratulate them. Sadly, the literal enforcement of an overly simplistic mandate, to not post names, was dogmatically applied to the detriment of our forum community. To see a good person banned, while at this very moment there are vastly more destructive posts being made, is the real crime. We all make mistakes, even LL. I recommend considering blaze's intent, recognizing it was not destructrive, and then removing blaze's forum ban. ~Ulrika~

It seems to me that there must be more to this story. See these threads from Robin: /120/89/34479/1.html#post367558/invalid_link.html

Is it a possibility that *edited* has a known history of poor forum behavior such that a congratulatory post that listed names in the title appeared out of character? Perhaps even suspicious?

Perhaps even suspicious? Oh, gee, no, that couldn't be it. (see sig) Anywho... Ulrika? You obviously didn't read the thread in question. This was not a "congratulatory" post in anything but the barest sense. It was a "Hey, you two over there! Yes, you! Can I hold an event in your honor?" post. Why spam the forum with that kind of a thread when you can ask the same question in an IM, and THEN post that you're going to hold it when you get an "Ok, sure"? Spam is against the forum rules, and *edited* has a history of spamming the forum. Just look at everything he's posted in the last 24 hours.

He got banned for THAT thread??? That makes no sense. Sure the thread was a waste of forum space, but I would think Jeska would just move it to off-topic and let it die a natural death.
So we get banned anytime we mention peoples name in a thread title??
I think something else must have happened.

I think something else must have happened. I agree that a banning is definately an overreaction. As far as something else having happened, I sure the hell hope so or I may just remove myself from what is rapidly becoming a sanitized, sterile discussion place.

I think something else must have happened. No, he got banned for this thread, plus the thread in question. Combine that with a general feeling of spam to all his recent posts, plus personal attacks in this thread, and you'll start to realize why they did this. And realize, that's just stuff he's done in the last 24 hours. I didn't dig back any further.

He made it sound like it was purely for his "two names in title" thread.

Sometimes the squeaky wheel gets oiled; sometimes the person who has to oil the wheel on an hourly basis gets tired of it and throws the wheel out. Frankly, I'm surprised it took this long.
Note, this does not affirm the censorship which I do disagree with. But, if I could make my job 10 times easier by the revokation of one person's fictive "rights", I'd be sorely tempted to do so.

Three days isn't bad and maybe next time you'll follow the rules instead of making your own decisions on what is right and what is wrong. Something you obviously have little capacity for. Oops, again, something your "friend" has little capacity for.

What we desperately need in SL is a user-moderated and metamoderated forum like Slashdot. It would put an end to all the spamming and inconsistent application of rules.
What do you say Jeska? Maybe we could lobby for a single moderated forum called "Moderated" where anything goes.
