Its an internet pop culture fad.
There was this wacky japanese dude that had a webpage about his rabbit. Sort of like a blog. He took pics of his rabbit every day and talked about his life with his rabbit. One day he had a pancake on his head and it looked so cute that everyone on the internet spread the pancake rabbit picture... and made parodies and stuff. The Canucks are having contract disputes and are locked out/on strike/whichever (can you tell I don't care about hockey?) They are not playing this season and the Great One has recently expressed fears that the dispute will drag on so long that they won't play next season either.
