Yet again, cometh a new version cometh a new posture. In 1.1 *alll avatars* stand like men: feet shoulder width apart. Now in 1.2 we stand with our hands *inside* of our hips.

Some say this resembles 'hands in pockets', but on many that I see, the hands are inside the hips and this makes for just ugly pictures.

Can we have the original 1.1 stance restored - even better would be 1.0.

And whats with the pixelated Parkinsons jitter that arms do when one is seated?

it seems that the world is slightly larger but we're not. our builds are not either. i've had to scale objects up a bit and back them away from each other to fit everything properly.

so i'm thinking that some of our odd appearances are due to the slightly larger matrix. omg did i say matrix?

I agree, this is irritating. hands in pockets is fine, IF you have on pockets. if youre wearing a dress or, well, anything thats not pcoketed, it just. looks. stoopid.

and sitting makes my avatar twitch too. irritating.

Didn't the hands always get lost in the hips?
My larger AV always had her hands lost in her hips and not just since 1.2.

Maybe with a "larger" AV this occurs, but never since 1.0 were my hands inside my hips - except when wearing skirts (prim skirts & dresses).

Now my hands literally penetrate my hips in that very ugly -1.2- standing position.

That's not the only time that occurs, it happens all the time when you're editing objects now too. We had it a little pre-1.2 but now it's very excessive.

Try wearing any attachments around the hip area, it'll look like you're playing fiddle faddle half the time if you know what I mean.

Hmm... I dont beleive I've ever fiddle-faddled, but I wont ask you to explain that Huns :D

The hands on hips pose always looks great when I'm wearing my Buzz Lightyear AV, but the other 95% of the time it does look pretty bad! It can't be that hard for the LL artists to alter the AV anims slightly for the next update. Time for another post in 'feature suggestions'...

Incidentally, has anyone else had that strange 'leg sticking out horizontaly' pose bug when standing on non-flat prims? I got it alot pre 1.2, but I havent logged more than a few hours in 1.2 since I've been on holiday. Hope its fixed now.

I thought I'd pipe in here to try and ease some concerns voiced in this and other threads regarding character poses and animation in SL.

Our goals for character creation and animation are in keeping with our favorite catch-phrase, "Your World, Your Imagination". We want you to be able to decide and control how your character looks and moves.

All those sliders and attachment points and texture swatches go a fair way towards giving you the ability to customize your look, but we haven't provided the tools (yet) to allow you to customize your movement. We are eager to give you that control, but the development tasks are substantial and will take time.

In fact, some of the strange twitching and hand position oddities noticed in 1.2 are caused by some recent additions under the hood (Inverse Kinematics, constraints) that will eventually give you *very* direct control over how you move. You may recall, prior to 1.2, the "hands on hips" standing pose only really worked on avatars of specific height and specific arm length. Now the hands meet the hips for even the most strangely proportioned characters. It may be a subtle change to the casual observer and there are certainly some bugs to be fixed, but it lays the groundwork for the long promised set of features allowing user creation/customization of their character's movement. (The short term benefit is that th IK can be used to fix some of the current "canned" animations, such as clapping, that may look strange on some characters.)

So, in short, stay tuned. If you can endure a few growing pains (square pupils???), the updates and changes to SL are intended to give you more control, not to piss you off. Honest!

Back in the 60ties, up on the Haight, square pupils meant we were groving on some mod acapulco gold man.

It was a good thing.

As Xenon stated, it's a quirk of the new method of positioning an av's arms/hands while seated. It occurs mainly when your av's arms aren't quite long enough to reach the desired position, and is to some degree an indication that the arms are out of proportion for the length of the torso (at least for a normal human). A quick fix is to lengthen your av's arms slightly, or to shorten the torso, or both.
