I am highly impressed by the amount of creativity and freedom in SL. I would like to begin to imagine what the future of SL will be like. What will be in version 2.0? even 3.0? what should be? I am looking for grand ideas not small changes.

All the good posts go ingored. How truly sad.
I'm thinking VR helmets.
I'm thinking hookup to standardized external gear for excersing, fighting, whatever you want to do.
I'm thinking tools for collaborative classroom education. People home schooling, but with social aspect that has fellow students from all around the world.

lets hope that there is no ghosting... that teleports don't fail... that the permissions system has been tweaked... that the inventory is searchable... a new rendering engine with hardware lighting and real shadows.... a sun and moon reflection that doesn't look weird... more attachment points... higher prim limits... inworld HTML engine... the ability to remap controls... better building tools... better texture management.

I have no idea for 2.0 Maybe hardware enhancements. I'm just can't wait until we're in a stable version of 1.7... although the new permissions system scares the hell out of me. Regards, -Flip

Yes the freedom of creativity is what has lured me to SL.
Haven't seen any big changes yet tho...and don't expect any drastic changes. Despite the TP bugs all the time right after the game has been updated.
All i see for the future is a few more islands spamming and small in-game changes and some preformance changes.

A major graphics update seems inevitable, but that typically follows the capability of available computation power, video graphic cards, and bandwith. I suspect, 2.0 will incorporate some sort of graphics update.
what about streaming real time video? The technology exists, but the concerns about copyrights and massive bandwith may hamper its introduction. I certainly would like to see this in 2.0. What about streaming live TV?
An ingame internet browser should also be feasible. Eve online already have this in simplified version. In my opinion, SL needs to link the 3D world to 2D internet by version 2.0. Could this enable SL to live as a parallel 3D internet that feeds into the conventional internet, perhaps in 5-10 years? The potential is there, limiting factors seem to be requirement for massive bandwith (perhaps 10x of current cable, which is feasible) and scalability to support millions of users at the same time.
If the above could become a reality, this could be an incredible business opportunity for LL and the inhabitants of SL. Imagine displaying your real life fashion designs on SL models ?! How about "going to movies" in SL? Apple's iTunes like stores, where you can download and purchase the music that's playing in streaming radio or video?
Anymore ideas?

I'm hedging that: the animations system as we know it will be long obsolete by then, as we'll have a FAR more powerful, yet dynamic and simple way to express ourselves via body language in SL. Who knows what control interfaces lie ahead? (Although in some respects, I can't get too optimistic since QWERTY still ties us down like rocks in your Cheerios.)
I also hope for Group Transport, and more social modes of connecting people inworld so that more people can make more friends and live happier, more fulfilling lives sharing interests and passions!
Customizable UI would be a big-time plus too: for those who don't use all the options, they could scale it in a modular fashion, and for a hardcore scripter, they could have things blazing on out like the Matrix code. w00t.
