How to get back the sense of community we once had? The sense of wonder? The sense of adventure? While we all struggle with the growing pains and stagnation of our world (i.e. no new featuers, only scalability changes), what can we do to keep the dream alive?

I think the forums give an innacurate reflection of our community spirit. It is human nature to speak out more often when upset than when happy. The spirit you are talking about - of exploration, of giving, of sharing, of adventure is very much alive in SL if you sepnd some time there. You have a bunch of very creative, passionate people in this community, and sometimes they mix like oil and gasoline, with explosive results. Without a doubt, Second Life has the most cohesive, supportive community I have ever seen, and even as its diversity grows, the constant nature of change in SL and the creative spirit that drives all of it ensure that it continues to grow and thrive.

You can't get back what never existed in the first place. I have a huge feeling that the "good ole days" are merely fig newton's of many people's imaginations.

I don't think it's been lost; it has evolved (and is evolving). SL has a much larger population now than even when I started, last Spring. I think it will eventually be more like tight-knit neighborhoods in big cities like NYC. Community spirit won't necessarily span the entire SL populace, but will instead exist in diverse pockets all over the map.
Oh, and small pointy objects actually pack a more powerful pain punch. _____________________

I agree with Cristiano, with the small exception that it's mostly the General Forums section that gives an innacurate reflection of our community spirit. I have read the other sections in the forums and it still surprises me how helpful people are in SL. I posted up a question about scripting in the Scripting Section, and many people offered help and even volunteered to help me if I needed help inworld. That is not the kind of community you see in many online games... the kind that is so eager to help out a scripting noob like me. ![]() Edited to add: Unfortunately the General Forums is where the topics of drama usually fall in. If you want to see how helpful people can be, visit the other sections as well. _____________________
