This is a note I've sent out to my friends and acquaintances in SL. Being that I don't know all that many people tho, and the forums seems like the place for active SL'ers, I wanted to make this available to anyone that would have interest. Please contact me in game if its something you'd like to participate in.

"Hi!

I'm writing this note because I've met you at some point in my travels of Second Life, and I'd like to ask you for help with a project I'm working on, "Second Life Treasure Hunters". Let me explain what this is.

I got the idea from 2 real life hobbies that have become popular, "geo-caching" and "letterboxing". If you aren't familiar with these, basically, it is this...a person hides a little treasure somewhere, anywhere from a large city to a national park, and puts the directions how to get to the hiding spot on the internet. Then others follow the directions to find the little "treasure", take it and replace it with their own.

In converting this idea to SL, I would like people with attractions... stores, parks, clubs, games, or anything else interesting, to hide a little "treasure" on their property. I've built a central building to put all the "maps" to the treasure. People can come get a map and go explore the area and find a treasure. I think this will be a fun pasttime for people that like exploring and getting free stuff. I believe it will benefit the owners of the land by attracting potential customers and also getting a touch of dwell.

Great Idea, right?

Ok, What do I need from you? If you have a piece of property that you'd be interested having a "treasure" on, then I need 3 things. First, hide a piece of treasure. It should be something that is unique to the treasure box. An item you can only get there. Second, make a "map", directions how to get to the treasure on a notecard, and send it to me. The directions should be interesting, take the hunter around your land, but not tooooo hard. And it would be great if the more extravagent the directions, the more extravagent the prize. Third, send me (Jaz Zephyr) the notecard to put in the Treasure Hunters Home.

Here is a simple example, this is where the home of the SL Treasure Hunters will be. Please take a look and enjoy finding a little prize.

Landmark: Clarksburg (15, 142)

1. Start by standing in the entrance doorway.
2. Walk halfway to the southwest corner.
3. Fly up to the blue walled floor.
4. Search your Map for Thunberg (but don't go there!).
5. Close the map, turn until the red arrow points straight up.
6. The parrot guards the hidden treasure
7. Click on the parrot and buy the free booty.

I hope you enjoy yourself. Please let me know if you are interested in assisting with this. If you don't own land, but would like to donate a "treasure" that would be greatly helpful as well.

Best Wishes,
Jaz

PS. If you have friends or acquaintances that might be interested in contributing to this project, please pass along this note. Thanks!!!"

Thanks again for your interest.

Jaz,

This is great. I will try to get our notecard to you over the weekend. Soon there will be hidden treasure on Parrot Island!

Sounds fun! It would be a welcome change to explore a little, rather than just fly to where I'm going.

Way cool, Jaz.
Waaay back in my noob days I suggested sl letterboxing (or something similar), but it never got off the ground (I wasn't much help). Glad someone took the trouble to launch it! :)

Your treasure hunt was way too easy. Need to include more riddle style clues.

Hi Devlin,

I agree, the sample is very easy. It is just a sample to show somewhat how it can be done. It started out a bit more difficult, but I wanted everyone that is interested in putting together a "treasure" and a "map" on their land, shop or club, to be able to get to the prize (so I remade it pretty easy). That way, they can see how the prize part would work too.

Hopefully the quests built by others will vary in difficulty, as does their end gifts.

Charlotte,

I've never seen that show, but it is something similar. There would be directions getting you from point a to point z (with however many stops along the way). The maps will only be limited by the creativity of whoever is creating them.

I've had some great, positive feedback. I'm hoping to have more quests in the chest by the end of this week!

Please, if anyone is interested in putting this type of quest on there land, club, stores, etc. let me know.

Thanks!

I hear there is a treasure map on the back of the US constitution.
