So...kids... Now that we have streaming video in SL..... Any of you got live streaming set up for a television like experience in your house yet? I have not found very many "Internet TV" stations that do live streaming for the Quicktime format (does Quicktime support Real or WMV feeds?), so maybe we can share what we'ved found? Here are two I've dug up from a place called America Free TV. www.americafree.tv/unicast_mov/AmericaFreeTVComedy.movwww.americafree.tv/unicast_mov/AmericaFreeTVDimensionB.mov(Yeah, I know, the board code screws it up.) (The first channel shows classic comedy, the second shows classic crappy B movies.) Just drop it into your About Land->Media box like you normally would, and voila! Free, streaming TV! So how geeky is that, paying $72 a year to sit down on my virtual couch in my virtual home to watch old-B movies? Somehow, it should be more sad, and less fun that it is. This begs the question: Is there way to script it so that you can change streams by pressing a button, instead of manually editing the URL?

Yes there is an LSL function to change media URLs through a script and I've been working on a little thing in Second Life that plays videos in the same way a television station does, but is free and can easily be expanded by other residents! I'll share it if you want...

Infinite Recursion! Yay!
04-05-2005 06:53
I spent about half an hour last night playing with the tv Talen was kind enough to send.
I hereby declare it MOST EXCELLENT, which is just above Excellent, and one below !!!OMFG THIS RULEZ LOLOLOLOL!!!!
What's also nice, and an unexpected surprise is that it doubles as picture viewer, and has a very robust menu feature as well.
Very nicely done, Talen!!! You have a good product on your hands if you decide to sell it on the open market.
Now I can spend $72 a year sitting down and watching virtual tv on my virtual couch, in my virtual home by the virtual seaside. Excellent. My lifelong dream of achiving double recursive slack is now complete.

Thank Crystalshard Foo for making the scripts and releasing them to the public for free....She did an awesome job I agree...I just made a box and added streams to the bookmarks that are 24/7 movie channels.. Anyone that wants one IM me in game and I'll send it to you preloaded with these channels....when I get on tonight I'll send em....by the way the channels change movies all the time . There is a comedy channel as well as classic movies...sci-fi movies..and music.....from Americafreetv. Again Crystalshard foo made the scripts and has released the code in the scripting forums as well as giving it away at her shop....So if you like the media viewer thank her for the great scripting and giving it away to the community

If you could send me a copy to evaluate, that would be great! In return, I'll also send you a copy of my script.

OMG! I'm so excited! I want a TV in my house, and I LOVE B movies! The idea of sitting on my virtual couch in my virtual house watching movies on TV - don't ask me why it's so appealing, cause I don't know, but it is!
I will be contacting you, Talen, to get one of these fabulous things, and also I would be interested in helping to test Derek's, assuming I'm tech savvy enough to even understand how to go about testing it.
Yours in unbridled excitement,
coco

coco I've made it pretty easy to use. There's a lot of features to set and it may seem overwhelming, but you can ignore all the stuff you want to and you'll still be fine. They're there to make people's viewing experiences as custom as possible This test is just a normal test to make sure there are no problems. If you just want to use it and don't want to hunt for errors, feel free to use for fun and don't worry about error reporting

I found some holes in the script that could cause some problems so I'm filling those holes, but it won't be tomorrow until I finish. But, it will be even better when you guys get it!
