Hi! I just started my second life, and I have a few questions...

How much is the "stipend" and when is it paid?

If I have a vendor, and someone buys something, do *I* get the money, or does it go on the vendor and I have to go get it?

I've seen people selling stuff for L$0, and some giving stuff away free to copy, and even some that is sold for a dollar, but then the dollar is returned to you. Is there some advantage or disadvantage to each of these?

Thanks in advance,
Rick

Q: "How much is the "stipend" and when is it paid?"
A: The stipend varies to person to person but wel all get payed no tuesdays..........

Q: "If I have a vendor, and someone buys something, do *I* get the money, or does it go on the vendor and I have to go get it?"
A: Im not exactly sure, but I beleave it goes directly to you......

Q: " I've seen people selling stuff for L$0, and some giving stuff away free to copy, and even some that is sold for a dollar, but then the dollar is returned to you. Is there some advantage or disadvantage to each of these?"
A: This is so simple I am actually surprised you asked the question..... Anything free is good Rick... Free clothes, free scripts, free time (hehehe), free sex, a free ticket to ride, an lets not forget "live free or die"........ Thats always a good one.........

Hope this helps, an remember...... "The only stupid question is the one not asked"......

Peace............

Adam...................

Well, of course, FREE is good, even if you sometimes get what you pay for.

What I meant was, what is the advantage to each method of giving away stuff? If I leave something on the ground that is free to copy, or sell it for a buck, or sell it for zero bucks, is there any advantage? Like maybe I get a record of it if I sell it for a buck, so I can track what is popular, or something like that.

Thanks for answering. I remember seeing the stipend amount when I signed up, but now I can't find it anywhere, and the knowledge base has been down for a while. Anybody else know?

Rick, I have anecdotally heard that there were past problems with selling something for "0 L$" and that a dollar or more helped solidify the transaction so that the item would actually transfer over. I do not know if this is true anymore.

As for the stipend amount, I highly recommend you attend Daemioth Sklar's Money 101 classes or IM him. He is very knowledgeable regarding the matter. Basic account WEEKLY stipend is 50 L$, if you have the right to own land on a Premium, it's 500 L$. Bonuses on top of that are weighted by such things as the amount of ratings you've received in a single week -- the more the merrier. ;)

Cheerio.

"Free to Copy" is often times buggy, so a lot of people dont like to use it.

You weren't always able to sell for 0 lindens, so people were forced to sell for 1$. A lot of items marked as 1$ are holdovers from that time.

The advantage now is if you pay at least 1$, there is a record of the sale. People like to monitor that. A sale for 0 dollars doesnt register.

Your stipend depends on the type of account you have with Linden Lab and your reputation "score", based on ratings and some other factors.

Premium Accounts get a minimum of L$500 each week, and a maximum of L$1500 each week depending on their reputation score.
Basic Accounts get a minimum of L$50 each week that they log in, plus I believe they get more money depending on their reputation, but not sure.

If you use a "Vendor" system or simply set an object to sell it's Contents for Sale, you will directly be paid the L$ when someone buys something. There are some "Vendor Systems" out there that may charge a commission, and pay part of the money to the developer. Most vendor systems are free and don't require commission to be paid. Some more complex systems with lots of features (like web site based buying, listings) may have commissions or cost money up front. You can get free vendor systems at the University of SL Library which is located on the 5th floor of the MegaTower ^1 in BonyDoon (as well has hundreds of other free items).

Selling things at L$0 is an easy way to transfer items to other folks. Free To Copy requires that you go through all of the scripts, sub-objects, etc and set the appropriate settings. Selling for L$0 is just an easy way to transfer an item or group of items with little fuss. Some people sell for L$1 because there was a bug before that didn't allow you to sell at L$0, which has since then been fixed. They may also charge a small amount of L$ just to offset their overhead costs to provide things "close to free".

Geezus. 50 a week as a base payment, that's awful. I guess I will hold my judgement on those who go out fishing for ratings. Seems more logical now. Used to tick me off that people who'd been in this for much less time than me had ratings x3 even x4 the amount I have after 6 months of this. Not any more.

I'd say, 'go buy some more in world currency,' but it seems a little silly. The people who go with basic membership probably do so for a number of reasons, but I can bet a major one is not having to keep paying monthly payments for financial reasons.

On an off note, is there any way to tell who is on a basic membership as opposed to premium, without asking? I know you can tell who is a charter member from a regular. But I've never really paid attention otherwise (IE- Resident vs. Basic Resident?).
