I can't login to the THERE forum with your link, Dar - any chance you could post an extract?
I did actually try THERE after the initial hulabaloo about it a couple of months back... but it wont accept my trial login/pass anymore. (After half an hour in THERE, I decided I would have just as much fun in a Java-based webchat filled with teenagers) |

Since when did somthing said on the "There" forums actually matter...
Hahaha in all due respect, There sucks. OK ok I take it back. I just found that extremely funny to say. In reality, it'd be quite funny if the guy who posted that was actually a member of There and wanted to rile up some SL bashing. Who cares though. There is competition, competition is GOOD, Second Life is doing better anyway, so just let it be. _____________________

There has made their players too lazy. They can't work their imaginations so can't adapt to this wonderful community (which I really don't want to leave but feel it might have to be done). Besides, why would you want to pay REAL money to buy some car in There you can crash into a tree but not destroy it?

There is really... uhh... bad! you go in, start out with 10,000 there-bucks (rip off of SL) everything is overpriced, EX: burning hot co-co drink- $T300! and if you want to go somewhere, you need a hoverbord ($T 6,000) if you dont want to run REALLY slowly. one more thing... the events! the ONLY four things you can do in the game is what you can do in events. 1.CHAT 2.HOVERBORD RIDE! 3.BUGGY RIDE! 4.DOG TRAINERS!. basicly, it hurts my brains to play it!

I must admit... I could throw myself and buggies off of mountains for a while... I think I spent my first 3 hours doing just that.

Yes, yes, we all know that There has problems, mostly stemming from their economic model, and lack of interactivity with content.
WHAT DOES THE POST ON THE FORUMS SAY? Geez, pique my curiousity and suffer the wrath. Didn't anyone explain that to you? |

From There:
SECOND LIFE IS TEH ROXX0RS www.secondlife.com l33t w00t And basically people were commenting that this is the reason I quit or this is the reason I never tried it and what a bunch of little kid residents and crap like that. _____________________

I tried 'There' a while ago.
The experience that was most representative of that environment was, upon teleporting to their main island, someone tried to run me over with a dune buggy within the first 30 seconds. I walked around, saw some terrain - tried to explore the monkey crater but couldn't get in due to non-payment-force-fields (you have to buy something to get into the special areas). After messing around and not really talking to anyone, I just didn't feel like going back. There were people there when I logged on, but not one of them tried to even say 'hi'. Contrast that to SecondLife where I met a Linden within the first 10 minutes, and then had a balloon tour within the next 5. People saying 'hi', and meaning it -- being friendly. No-one running me over. That's why I'm staying, in addition to the building and other things like special events. |

Okay, I confess - I'm a cross-player! I play There (not nearly as much as I do SL) when I am feeling silly and social, rather than creative. I was given a year's membership by a friend who is very enamoured of There and it seems pointless to let it go to waste.
The two worlds are completely different in every way. As different as SL is from TSO, IMHO. Yep, I believe one to be far superior to the other (I'm not saying, but you can probably guess!), but each has it's place and folks for whom it will be the best choice. Why trash something just because it isn't the best, anyway? Heck, meatloaf is a far cry from braised fois gras with black truffle sauce - but if I had the latter for dinner every night, I'd sure start craving the former! Bhodi and her two cents P.S. If anyone would like to fund my "fois gras vs. meatloaf" experiment, let me know. I'd happily test that hypothesis! |

If meatloaf cost the same as fois gras *and* charged you extra to get the fork to eat it with, then I think there would be cause to trash the meatloaf.
Mmm. Meatloaf. Great, now I'm hungry, and it's three hours until lunch. Thanks a lot Bhodi ![]() |

I've replaced the meatloaf with Folger's crystals. Let's see if anyone notices.
*runs* Not going to get into SL v. There -- I'm sure both have their points, but I like SL enough I'm sticking with it. Waving RL$ for There$ and objects isn't my idea of value for my money, but YMMV. _____________________
