Confused about Skins/Tattoos ...

I would like to purchase a nice skin. I would also like to be able to make my own makup tattoos and change them at will. Is it possible to wear a skin, and apply a makup tattoo at the same time? Are the two things mutually exclusive? Is a full-body skin nothing more than three linked tattoos? Some of the default skins do allow me to wear my makup. But other skins I have purchased either do not allow me to modify my skin, or seem to get replaced when I try to apply my makeup tattoo. Yet I have a friend with a very nice skin that is able to wear tan line tattoos.

I am so confused. Hoping somebody can help me understand ...

In general, full body skins are three linked tattoos. And the way to get different make-up is to have a different head tatt everytime. That's why you see some skin makers sell the full body skin with three different make up styles for the head part.

But Namsor Daguerre has made something that will work the way you imagine. You have to download files and install into your computer to get it to work. I havent tried it myself but if you read the notecard about their skin line, it's explained well.

As for adding onto a full body skin, some people sell the tanlines and tatts as either articles of clothing or textures. That's how come some people can add a tatt to a full body skin without altering the skin itself.

I hope that made sense. If not, I'm sure more people will chime in here to articulate things better than me. :p

Thank you so much Lash. I visited Namssor's Second Skin store and read through her note cards. I think I am going to contact her to find out how I should proceed. I appreciate your help!

Yeah, what the Queen of LOL Lash said. :)

Persephone, at the current state, we are limited in ways of thinking about clothing layers. For example, in the real world, we could put on two jackets if we wanted to -- obviously in SL, this cannot be the case, unless a workaround like one jacket being specified as a different layer were factored into the end outfit. (Yes, it sounds silly, two jackets -- but hey, you never know, sim nuclear winter. ;) )

So in the implementation, there is some limitation of flexibility. I wanted a "tan goth" skin, but not easy, that! :)

All the best in your adventures finding out how to do this. Some people get awfully creative in opening new ways to do things. I have a good feeling your desires for av customization will keep opening new doors for you.

Good Question Persephone, one I wished I had asked. I know how you feel. I have 2 beautiful skins. Both makers were nice enough to add my tattoos and one included 3 different versions of makeups. But there are times when I want different or additional tattoos. I can add tattoos by buying or making tattoos that are made with the undershirt or underpants layers, but then I can't also wear an undershirtor underpants. And sometimes I do wish I could change makeup.

I'm interested in what Lash suggested. It sounds very workable. :)

Thank you April :) Your skin is beautiful, by the way.

What I would really like is to have the skin as a layered Photoshop file. Then I could edit it as I see fit. Of course, skin makers would never do this because I could repackage and sell their skin as my own.

Thanks for all of your help!
