Once in a blue moon, I'm bored to death or just in a nostalgic mood, so I pop up google and look up names or nicknames of people I used to know but have since lost touch with them.
Today I found a blog belonging to this girl I used to know, but the thing is, she has no contact up on that site, and isnt actively using it anymore! What a horrible frustration, to be confronted with a window into the life of someone you know, with no way of contacting her!
I posted a comment in the vain hope she would one day return there and see it, but then it ocurred to me that those people checking her blog all have links to their email, so I mailed one of them in hopes he can put me in touch with her again.
Gah, the internet is frightening. I wonder what manner of crap people would dig up on me if they googled :)
There's stuff about me all over the web, newsgroups, mailing lists, all my old websites are up on archive.org.
So far, no one I have reconnected with has ever complained, though :)

Yup, I've googled old friends and been googled myself. The last email I got was from an old high school friend back in the States, titled "West Yorkshire? What the F**k!"

Yep. Got googled by an old friend from middle school that way. Sometimes I google around to see what's up with people I used to know.

I looked up one of my best friends from college this year, only to find his obituary. And it was oddly worded so that you couldn't tell what he died from. I emailed his mother, who I am certain remembers me, but she didn't answer.

All in all, a very depressing venture. Don't think I'm gonna try it again any time soon.

sigh...

Holy crap!

Heh...anyway..

Yeah I do that sometimes too. Myself, my name is on two microchips out in space (along with a few thousand other Planetary Society members)--the Stardust mission. It's due to return it's samples in 2006! One microchip will stay with Stardust and orbit the sun indefinitely, the other is supposed to return to Earth in the "Sample Return Capsule".

They also happened to put the list of names on a website, which is what I found obviously.

It could be a really bad thing, because if hostile aliens are looking to wipe out all the people who know about astronomy/science and so on (alot of these people are hardcore scientists obviously), they now have a nice list of people to search for! lol... Good thing I'm on their side... (Just kidding, really.)

BTW

WTF is C3PO supposed to be USEFUL for anyway, besides whining? Stupid piece of scrap metal would be more useful recycled as a toaster. But even that would suck, because who would want to listen to a whining wussy toaster? Is he gold plated? If that's the case he should just be melted down into gold ingots. Help the economy some, and stop being so damn useless you stupid bucket of bolts! R2 is 1,000 times more useful than your tin man ass, and he's shaped like a salt and pepper shaker FFS!

No, hostile aliens will hunt you down for being a lima bean lover. Everyone knows the first limas were exiles from their home planet.:D
