I was in the Shelter today and mentioned there are a lot of "Qin" surnames running about these days. We decided that "Kin" is how you pronounce it and had a blast coming up with names:
Pum Qin Munch Qin Smo Qin Sin Qin Drun Qin Manny Qin Bro Qin
etc etc ... LOL
Any one think of more?

I know this probably would be viewed as racist by some, but it is more accurately an example of when cultures collide. Back in a former life, one of my firm's customers, an internet backbone company in the fine nation of Korea had some difficulty. He sent a well-written, cogent, valid problem which came over from Tech Support. At the bottom of the mail (pure ASCII days) was a standard corporate signature block: ======================= Phuc Din, Vice President Internet Communications Some company +82 343 1234 some!bangpath!telco!pdin pdin@telco.kr We had far too much fun with that guy's name that day. But we were young and stupid then - I'm old and stupid now.

Some English words sound like obscenities to those speaking a different primary language. And on an additional note, Thai people in particular... with places like PHUKET <--- and no, it's not really pronounced that way, but that's the closest it can get in English due to how egregiously difficult Thai vowels are.

Of course, Jack did disclaim: From: someone We decided that "Kin" is how you pronounce it Just JOE QIN Seriously though, it is hard to transliterate some stuffs into English 'cuz of complex vowels and other subleties (like accents).

If we use the Chinese pronunciation 'CHIN' my name would then be:
No Qingues
or
Deja D' Qingar

When you have alligators chomping at your ass, always remember to keep your qin up. I like the one I heard while I was in the UK better though, someone told me to "Keep your pecker up". So... I'm like "Right O" And then someone at work told me it meant the same thing as keeping your qin up.

I refuse to accept this as evidence. How do you pronounce "read" ... is it "reed" or "red" I still maintain that Lambert is pronounced "lam-bear" (Win Qin) --Jack Lambert
