The Evolution of a Programmer
- -----------------------------

High School/Jr.High
===================
10 PRINT "HELLO WORLD"
20 END

First year in College
=====================
program Hello(input, output)
begin
writeln('Hello World')
end.

Senior year in College
======================
(defun hello
(print
(cons 'Hello (list 'World))))

New professional
================
#include <stdio.h>
void main(void)
{
char *message[] = {"Hello ", "World"};
int i;

for(i = 0; i < 2; ++i)
printf("%s", message);
printf("\n");
}

Seasoned professional
=====================
#include <iostream.h>
#include <string.h>

class string
{
private:
int size;
char *ptr;

public:
string() : size(0), ptr(new char('\0')) {}

string(const string &s) : size(s.size)

strcpy(ptr, s.ptr);
}

}

friend ostream &operator <<(ostream &, const string &);
string &operator=(const char *);
};

ostream &operator<<(ostream &stream, const string &s)
{

{
if (this != &chrs)
{

CODE

public class HelloWorld
{
public static void main(String[] args)
{
System.out.println("Hello World!");

Of course, a real master programer would intuit that someone else had already solved this problem and just copy their code.

I know the original post is a joke, but it's only a parody of something that really happens.

My main motto with programming is KISS, but unfortunately as I gain further years of experience, I'm noticing that it takes a lot more dependencies and abstraction layers just to get started in something.

I sort of miss the good old days of actually having close contact with the data itself, and occasionally having to look at the machine code to sort something out... =(
