Okay it all started when I got a phone call from a friend I have not been in contact with for months; well when I answered the phone my little 13 year old brother took advantage of this moment logged on to Second Life and started causing mayhem. After conversing with my friend I went to the computer only to notice that my COMPUTER has been banned, pondering what happened, I tried sl on a diff comp on a totally diff foundation. Now this idea worked.....But super lag......Any ideas to get my previous comp un-banned? Thanks

SL can't ban a certain computer. They can ban an account, however if you can log in with your account on another computer I think your brother just messed with your settings. and You should be at least 5 years older than you brother to be even playing SL

I thought they could ban an IP address? Maybe that's what happened.

Have you tried e-mailing suppot@lindenlab.com and explaining to them what happened? Or a telephone call to LL.

From: Owl Patel Eh, you can always just change your IP Well, you can't just go change the number. Maybe most people are on dhcp and can request the number be released and get a new one, I don't know. I know with my isp it is statically assigned and I can't change it without calling them up.

From: Devlin Gallant THAT old excuse. My little brother did it. BAH! I think YOU are the little brother! Yeah. I got griefed by a 'little brother'. I sent the little brother flying across several sims. The lil brother then proceeded to fly back, demand I give him the gun I used on him, or he'd file an abuse report. etc, etc. had recurring visits by same little brother over course of a week.

I would be very surprised if LL didn't have the ability to ban a hardware MAC address as well as an IP. Thet would keep a whole computer out regardless of IP address change.

Mac address don't travel in IP packet afaik, they are only used on the physical network layer and are so are changed at every router the packet cross.

The IP packets would get the MAC of the last router they went through, but couldn't physical address be encoded somewhere in the SL login data sent by the client? That's how I'd probably do it if I were looking to ban a whole machine from access.
