I got this in my email today around noon: --------------------------- Greetings, Just a quick note requesting that you please refrain from posting personal types of threads on the Second Life forums in the future. Please be sure to follow the Terms of Service and Community Standards, along with the agreed upon guidelines for the "New in Second Life" forum when posting to the forums. If you have a personal issue to discuss with a fellow resident, utilize the private messaging feature on the forums or feel free to discuss it with them in-world. Thank you for your cooperation, please let us know if you have any questions. Best, Linden Lab ------------------------------- So LL... which post of mine are you referring to? If you don't tell me (or anyone else) how should I know which one was in violation -and- which action I should AVOID next time around. Philip... how on earth can you reasonbly expect us to know what action was in 'violation' if you guys don't point to a specific example???!!!

Most likely they are referring to your 'I think I hurt someone's feelings' which is ridiculous since you didn't mention any names. wow. . . just, wow

One.. I'll be that's it too, but I am waiting for LL to confirm that. The whole reason I didn't mention anyone's name on that thread is that A) they know who they are, and B) I didn't want to get into a violation by naming someone. I guess it's OK for them to take thinly-veiled jabs at me in several other threads, but mine is not - even though it was jab-less. Go figure.

Well, I must say LL was certainly fast on this one. Thank you Lee for the prompt response.
Lesson to be learned ladies and gentlemen:
Never apologize to someone on the forums for a misunderstanding that happened inworld, even if they continue to jab you on the same forums and you did NOTHING wrong.
Justice certainly prevails.

I thought in a post from Robin almost three months ago, that the TOS and notifications were going to be modified so that when these were sent out that more information would be given to the individuals on *what* it was that they did wrong.
Since that time, there have been more instances of "TOS warning notifications" with absolutely NO information contained within the email.
LL -- when will the new changes be implemented?
People have the right to know. Period. If the rules and regulations are not spelled out properly in the CS and/or the TOS, how are they supposed to know what is right and what is wrong. Granted, there will always be a gray area for discussion -- but not having definitive and clear descriptions is not fair to LL, nor is it fair to the end-users.
Again, communication and honesty is the best way to deal with your end-users, right or wrong. Clear and precise definitions will protect LL employees, Liasons will have a definive list to follow, and the end-users will know when they have done something wrong.
Allowing individual judgments on a case-by-case scenario is only going to lead to headaches for your staff and for the end-users. Already, there are SL'ians who will go from one Liason to another Liason to get what they want -- putting it into a clear perspective for everyone will stop a lot of unnecessary nonsense (!) and hard feelings against LL and/or against other SL'ians.

Glad it was cleared up for you Juro. I agree with what Lynn says. There also needs to be a Liaison Handbook: Questions, Answers, And Rules so that ALL Liaisons have the same understanding of things and rules don't depend on who you ask. The Handbook should also be made public so people can look things up themselves Thats kinda a different topic, but in the same ballpark.

This is surprising. Either LL is picking on you or someone is bitching enough where LL is fed up so they have to do something in order for someone to stop bitching at them. Seems to me another case where the whiners win.

What is a 'personal type of thread'? Every posting I make is personal to me. And is posting 'personal types' of message another restriction we have to add to the growing list?

It's official. Old players and old agendas, old means of helping the community, watch out: they're trying to send us off into retirement, trying to take away what we've tried so hard to contribute to the world. We're not needed anymore. *grabs his cane, limps out*

Personal type of thread?
Never post a thread about how you're looking for a date? Or sex? I don't get it, I don't remember something like that being in the rules. Well, maybe the sex thing, but not the personal thing.

Hopefully we're not getting weird, and sorry if the mail was confusing. It wasn't meant to be a warning, and no disciplinary action was attached.
The post we were referring to was one where Juro addressed a personal complaint to a specific user. We should have been more specific as to which one we meant. Generally, though, we're trying to encourage people who have specific problems with another individual to send a private message or talk to them in-world rather than start a forum thread in a general discussion area.

Robin,
I what I found ironic was that I went out of my way not to name the individual. There wasn't a specific user named. Yes, it was 'a' user, but fearful of LL giving me a tap on the wrist, I made sure to make no reference to the individual.
I agree that issues IW should be handled there. I sent an IM and thought all was OK. Then I read several posts on different threads where the user was making thinly-veiled jabs at me. I kept silent and did not reply to them, yet they continued.
Then, I started to think: maybe they weren't as OK with the IM conv. as I thought they were. Let me go explain myself in a post.. no names, but they'll know who they are. No malice..
Next, I check my inbox and found the message from LL. Viola, here we are.
I do appreciate how quickly Lee and others in the office responded to my emails back to you and I realize you are very busy and probably the last thing you want to deal with it some issue that started with IW actions and spilled over here.
I know it wasn't a violation.. but it definately came across like when you were 7 and your mom gave you 'that look'. You knew she didn't approve, but she wasn't going to ground you. That upset me. Here I am trying to be the upstanding all-around fun/good/twisted guy I am and *I* get 'the look'.
My apologies Robin and crew at LL for taking up your resources on this issue.

I'll still do what I do, I'll just adapt and do it differently Unlike so many people coming nowadays I don't *need* in game money... I don't *need* vast amounts of land. Having the 'old' mindset isn't a disadvantage -- it enables you to transcend and rise above all that truely doesn't matter. One day I'll build a replica of Redfern Station in Sydney, just so that on the side of a derelict building I can write in letters 50m high: "People who like people more than power and profit, are the luckiest people in the world" Siggy.

No matter how I phrase this, I expect that my sense of good-natured humor will be lost, but shouldn't Robin's post be reported to a moderator? For that matter, shouldn't this one be too, if so, once or twice?

Agreed Darko. I said my part and expressed my 'Huh?'. I don't think it's worth anybody, especially LL, spending more time on this. It's all been laid out.

Malachi, not sure, but I'm guessing you'd want to report me for responding directly to Juro?
I thought, since the matter had been brought to a public forum, and the decisions questioned, that it needed a public answer, to improve communication, as opposed to leaving folks guessing.

Robin, I have no issue in someone posting something *truthful* about me here in the forums, even though it might go against the TOS. No harm done, and Malachi was being humorous. Thanks again for the attention to this thread Robin.
