So, I'm trying to set out a couple of more calculators at the Calculatorium and twice I get frelled up because of Slate's "sandbox" blocking me from walking around. Once it catapulted me to the other side of the sim, making me intangible and forcing me to log out. Second, it pushes me *UNDER* the land and I have to log.
I just don't get the mentality of restricting areas from people. I have camera zoom, I can see what your doing. It makes working on land, on a project, in Second Life a lot less fun or real to see these gawdy red bars when you fly by something.
Why doesn't LL go on and put red bars like this at the welcome areas to irritate and scare off newbies before they even have a chance to get interested in SL. It would save the residents of SL a lot of time and effort maintaining their own red barred parcels if LL would just take the initiative on this.

Jarod, it's nothing against you. The reason why we restricted that area is because it's being used as a sandbox area for the residents of Slate. We aren't trying to hide anything, nor are we doing it to make people angry. There is another reason, that I won't get into, IM me in world or PM me if you want to find out why. But the main reason why we restrict access to that area is to make sure that only Slate residents can use that area.

i don't really care if people ban me from their land or don't add me to their access list. it doesn't bother me to see popups telling me i can't enter when i bump into the wall.
what i HATE, in a 3d virtual environment, is those silly stupid foolish red/green bars. whose bright idea was that. come on lindens, fess up. blame it on somebody that doesn't work there anymore.
as soon as y'all replace the miramare telehub with a roofless model, i'll change by sig to say "please remove the red & green bars from restricted land."

Brad, I know it's nothing personal and I know the story. Those bars are just a pet peeve of mine. Goes back to my second land purchase in Mauve. I had a gorgeous view of the horizon, except for those damnable bars that would pop up if I walked too close. I didn't mean anything agasinst Slate, just against the bars.
Khamon, I blame Haney for them. Blaming him works for most everything else -- land sales screwing up, sim crashes during town meetings, etc.

i've changed my mind. now the new park we're constructing is bordered down an entire side by a big empty lot access restricted for no apparent reason. those big red lines really add to the natural landscape.
what the hell are people thinking when they do this? is there any actual reasoning behind it or is it just cool to only let your club into the hood?
i shouldn't complain. this is only the seventeenth thing i've tried to do inworld that has been bolted to the floor by such idiocy. i should take a break right? i'm sure i'll come back and find that people are acting much more neighbourly than they do now.

All I can add is this...
I fly around... I see nice land to spend some peaceful time in... I hit red bars... and the owner loses a few more dwell points...
*shrug* Those red bars could be costing you more than you know.

i hate it too when i'm flying around an area where i see NO red lines and if so much as my NOSTRIL hovers over a plot, i'm kicked to next Tuesday. is that some kind of irritating script thing people stick on their property?

someone posted an excellent ideain the world forum. change the red bars to forty meter tall solid walls complete with roof. only the owner & people on the access list can fly through. nobody can see in or out.
this is so perfect i can't believe nobody ever thought of it before. the lindens will obviously implement this. obviously.
