Buisness directory

Is there such a thing as a business directory listing shops and their locations? Being still relatively new to SL I have difficulty locating items and usually only find what I want by pure luck. It seems mostly word of mouth.

As I have quite a bit of webspace, I am toying with the idea of creating an online business directory with entries supplied by the owners or third parties. Assuming something doesn't already exist, would this be of interest?

Welcome to SL! One great way to find shops and such in game is to use the FIND button. You can enter keywords, or use the pull down and select "store", or any of the other options available. It will also give you the option to teleport to that place and see it on the map. You can also open up your big map and choose the land feature that says "Objects for Sale". This is in the pull down menu on the right hand side. Once you have that selected, tiny white dots appear all over the map to show you where you can find items to purchase. I use both of these features ALL the time and they are wonderful.

Also, outside of SL there are already three websites in development that will be listing Business Directories and such. So they will be of help soon too I'm sure.

We need a service where we can search by products or product type and that is what he is producing.

I do know that Cristiano Midnight is doing the same thing with http://sluniverse.com , well, that and a lot more stuff.

And Candie has the http://slfanclub.com/ which also has the start of a business directory.

SLUniverse.com's launch was delayed by the 1.2 changes, but it is in development now and will hopefully launch in some form in the next few weeks and contains searchable directory features. Cia Curie is also developing a directory site as well. There is certainly room for multiple sites, but if too many are created they will start to cannibalize one another. Candie Apple and I have had discussions on merging our efforts as much as possible, since the ultimate goal is to provide the best directory resource for SL users.

Personally I'd like to see one unified site, but I understand that having competition isnt necessarily a bad thing.
