Preference to M Property or PG Property?

Personally, I wouldn't dream of arguing that we need to get rid of either one. If you don't want to see or read sexual content, PG is absolutely crucial. If you want to say what you want and do what you want in the privacy of your own home, then M is absolutely crucial.

Presently I believe there is a preference in how simulators are set, that there are many more PG zones than there are M zones. I believe also, that all M-rated zones are extremely crowded, while you don't have to go that far to find a PG zone that has ample land and objects available.

What I would personally propose, is that for each normal PG-zone created, there is at least an equal need for an M-rated zone. I realize of course that themeparks, vehicle sims, and sandboxes aren't standard PG sims, but even considering this it seems we have twice as many PG zones as we do M-rated zones.

I'm not aware of any M-rated zones that aren't constantly running out of free objects or land, so it is that although I am really not comfortable being judged for my ethical beliefs, I have to move to a PG sim.

However, this is not about me, or anyone else in -particular-. If I could've put a Poll on this thread I would've, as what I'd like is to hear the masses. Should we give preference to opening PG sims, as it seems things have been done thus far, or should we give preference to opening up M sims? We don't own the game, we're only subscribed, and arguing never solved anything, but it's scientifically proven you can exchange information and opinions. =)

edit: too many grammatical errors to mention, and probably too many for me to spot and identify at 5 AM. And Zone = Sim, Sim = Zone, just so you get what I mean by this 'odd' term for simulators. :)

I've noticed that the majority of player content in M rated sims could also exist in PG sims. Seems people "waste" M rated sims with PG rated content. Before you flame me though let me get to a deeper issue.

Honestly I don't see the point in M and PG sims being seperate. Seems to me that we could get by fine with a set of general rules that apply globally. Reading over the communitiy standards I get the idea that the seperation was put in place to allow people to censor themselves from potentially offensive content. Having this ability is good but I think the Lindens took to broad of an approach to it.

In M rated sims, you are required to keep any explicit content indoors and out of sight of flyer-by's. Noone should ever be offended by anything unless they actually choose to go into a building.

With this rule already in place I don't see why, content wise, there needs to be a M and PG sim. What is the difference from choosing to fly into a M sim or choosing to fly into a certain building?

If I was running the show I would:
1. Get rid of the M/PG rating on whole sims.
2. Allow land owners to self rate their land so they don't have to put up a sign saying, "Hey I have stuff in here that may offend some players".
3. Encourage players to use the personal rating system if they find something that the owner rated wrong.
4. Give players an option to not to load content from players, players with a certain rating threshold, and whole groups.
5. Put in a simple swear word filter that can be turn on or off by the player.

Not flaming you, but visual content is not the only limitation in PG sims. An M sim is nice since it also frees up language content as well. I never swear *cough cough* in Welsh, it's PG and that kind of behavior is not tolerated there!
Seriously though, the only reason I could ever think to make the division is to limit where trial-users could go (even though they're supposed to be 18 or older to do even that?). I'm not so certain anymore. But I wish i had a good solution to this issue since we are certainly seeing some of the problems lately. The demand for M sims is definately higher than the supply...it makes me curious why the Lindens put up a 4-sim raceway park while space like that could be better used to aleviate the stress that is all too obviously effecting some of our more vocal members of the SL community.

You know what would be freaking cool, allowing builds, but not on the racetrack portions - or only allowing overpass builds. You'd have a wild racecourse.

Or whatever - just visually whipping along with all these builds around you would be neat, as long as you didn't have to stream too much the ride should be fairly smooth.

I think we should maintain the PG and M versions. They each have a purpose in SL.

However, we are in dire need of more M sims. I have a bunch of land in Stillman, and when I purchased it, the Object Usage was low. With the launch of the telehub in Stillman, all that has changed. The Object Usage hovers above 96% and is usually around 100% lately. This is what is getting me to move... but I want to move into an M sim... not another PG.

Lindens.. more M's please!

I think it's a pretty common misconception that M rated sims are naughty cybersex zones, hehe (much to the disappointment of random 14 year old noobs). The draw for most people is two simple things... being able to talk the way we do in RL around our friends, and not having to worry about finding some place to hide when you're working on your av or changing clothes.

This is my guess about why there are so many more PG sims than M sims... LL wanted to provide us with the ability to exercise the full range of human expression but didn't want half the world to turn into a red light district. I imagine the tameness of the M sims is a bit of an unexpected surprise.

That sounds really good to me, I would hope that it was implementable since it might really open things up. Obviously rating an area containing X-rated content as PG-13 would have the same massive penalties as adult content in PG areas now, and I really haven't seen anyone abuse that.

Though, owners deciding the behavior of people on their land would be a little weird I suppose. Big Brother is nothing compared to Little Brother. :-)

#4 really gets my interest, I would think that the game's underlying code is well aware of property boundaries, so I would wonder if it could just query the land containing an object before it loads; if the land has a rating higher than you've set your threshold, maybe you'll just see grayscale objects and not much else. (I say grayscale objects, because of course M-rated content would still officially supposed to be indoors not loading walls at all could really be counterproductive. ;) I think it's hard to make a grey-scale prim actually look offensive.)

Though for the time being, I'd just like to see more Mature zones. :P It's not that people want to be messing around all the time, but no one wants to feel that their behavior is held to a certain range and that if they exceed this they could be punished.
