I think that the land auctions are a good thing, because a group of lifers can buy the property and use it to set up a very useful and fun area.
A lottery would potentially give the land to someone who couldn't use or maintain it, and prevent the land from being used for good.

I agree with relee... in fact i'd almost want to make that a requirement... like ONLY allow groups to bid, and every big must be accompanied with an actual statement of intent, to make sure that whoever does get the land ought to have some plan of how to use it in a constructive and engaging manner.

Plus, it's a way to drain the bank accounts of those people who DO have huge sums of money. (Not that they couldn't release the whole thing and get back all or most of what they spent, or parcel it out.)

I agree. I like the land auctions, despite my inability to take part in them.

Im sure there is room for both. I am actually surprised that more residents dont offer their excess land for lottery.

I haven't seen Candie even place a bid in this auction, so your fears of her buying this land, too are pretty unfounded. If someone jumps in on the bidding with a much higher bid all of a sudden, they are doing us all a service by shortening the whole tedious process, since the land is going to eventually sell for a good bit more than the current high bid. The land will no doubt be bought by whichever individual or group wants it the most. Even real estate magnates don't spend too much. The idea for a lottery is really great, I have to admit. Lotteries for the new mature sims might be a very equitable way to fairly pass out shares, since no matter how many mature sims they open up they likely will not meet the demand.QUOTE]Originally posted by Regnar Bell I am posting this for a very specific reason. Only 3 or 4 people could possibly afford the land in Zoe and we all know who those people are . It really bothers me that Linden Labs dosent have the foresight to see this .
Why dosent Linden hold a lottery for the land at say $1000 per ticket Limit 1 per person ? We all know who is gonna get the land dont we ? . Im not gonna post names because it is not my way. But I can say this . With the Land Shortage as bad as it is , Newcomers wont be able to buy a 4x4 parcel in a sim that isnt maxed out on prims . So no new lands for newcomers , They wont spend $$ to join Second Life. No New users = no new Sims and no new sims = no more income. And Of course no more income = no more SL eventually.
So . Find another way ! [/QUOTE]

Candie, the last auction - the boardwalk land sale - everyone pretty much assumed that a certain person or group would be buying the boardwalk, but they obviously didn't buy it in the end, did they? I was just pointing out that in SL, just like real life it isn't safe to call a horse race until the horses start racing. With an auction we all of us , whether as individuals or in groups have an equal opportunity to show how much we really want that land. When Chartreuse and Mauve opened up there was a really crazy rush to buy land up that got a little ugly at times and I'm really sorry, in retrospect, that I played a part in that land rush. I do hope that whoever does buy Zoe is as responsible a steward of their land as you always are with yours. From: someone Originally posted by Candie Apple Huh?

Don't miss his point!

I think the most important thing about what he has stated is the size of the land being auctioned. I would have liked to bid for just a quarter of the land for my project, but the price range is so high that I don't have a chance for the entire plot. I also agree with Regnar that in the long run it may be more beneficial to open the land to all and see who gets there first. Who's to say until we try?

LAND IN ZOE - WHO CANT AFFORD IT?
11-14-2003 08:59
I have no objection or thoughts on the land auction. BUT! I have land for sale in Zoe. Its waterfront and only $8000. I'll be willing to lower the price and even rent to own as i have done for some before. The real estate in SL is just like RL. I wanted a place on Fort Lauderdale beach.... It took me six months to find just the right place at the right price. Now I rent the place out instead of vacationing there. Pretty close to SL huh?
