Way to attempt to incite a flame war. I love how people debate politics on the Sl forums when many of them have no idea whats going on.

It was only a matter of time. Social Security (SS) is actually a nasty little regressive tax, taxing income from only the first US$100,000 earned. One could eliminate all the problems with the system by preventing the government from borrowing from SS, removing the cap on income, and then restructuring the tax to be progressive like income tax.

Beyond the discussion of modifying the distribution of Social Security payments is that of the national debt. Carrying such a huge national debt is detrimental to the value of the dollar and our economy as a whole. It's only a matter of time until the tax breaks on the highest income earners are reversed. My guess is that they'll cut the budget to the bone to get the current administration through their final term and leave it to the next administration to raise taxes.

I have an idea what is going on.

There was no intent to incite a flame war. I was just commenting on the article. It seems that some conservatives are a little upset that their might be more taxes.
