Everybody wonders why they (LL) doesn't come in and ask and or discuss issues. Here It is in a nutshell... This SL is Phillip Lindens,he owns it he can shut it down , he can also change the rules totally. Let it be known that as I have stated there is no us when it comes to what should or shouldn't be done. He Phillip Linden holds all the cards. He knows it and you all know it now. There is nothing better for any company than to give a show of power and beleive me this was In there minds a good thing to do, but It was and is a show of power. There will be and are changes coming. this is not from inside information.. it's just from someone who has seen how companies work. Just mark my words and flame away all you want but when all the new changes come down you all will remember what I have said. The fact of the matter at hand was how it was done .... no notice no inside help from (LL) for anyone specially newbs. I for one have looked and asked for help to learn how to be a productive SL citizen. Nothing even remotely informative have i seen. this part is to (LL) you've taken away and not given us as newbs the tools to know how we can weather this new economic change If you truly cared it definitely would've been done differently. I've never seen an MMO that doesn't have some form of immediate crafting and or type of work available for the new ingamer. Anyhow let the flaming begin. Have fun

The future of Virtual Reality is in free, open-source platforms and user or volunteer ran servers rather then company managed ones.
That is not the case at the moment, and despite announcements from Linden Labs - will most probebly never be the case with Second Life in particular, but thats what we have at the moment. A commercialy owned and managed Virtual Reality platform. It has its benefits, and it has its obvious downfalls.
At the moment, thats just how it is.

At the moment, thats just how it is. *nods* I think it's clear that someday SL will have to go open source, at least for the sim servers, if it ever is going to replace the Internet. But, for the short to mid-term, money is a great incentive to develop.
