Hi,

I was just wondering, if there was a way to contact someone from my trading card list who is online on Second Life but me not being online on SL

Is it possible? I remember that someone IM'ed me through his email even though he wasnt online on SL.

The reason I'm asking is because my regular computer fried and this laptop that I'm using doesnt seem to fit the requirements that SL needs to install its software. Will take a few weeks for my baby to be fixed.

Thanks for your answer in advance. Really appreciate it :)

They have to IM you first, and you have to have SL set to forward IMs to your email. I think.

Yeah, as far as I know, once you receive an offline IM in your email, you can just stick that email address in your contacts and email them back IM's any time you like. Does anybody have confirmation of this??

when I get offline messages, the sender's email address looks like the user's UUID. Comments anyone???

It is correct that, if you have your IMs set to go to your email address when you're not in SL, you can reply to an emailed IM and have it relayed back to that person's IM messages in SL.

However... if you wait too long to send an email responding to the IM you received via your email, it will expire. I forget the exact expiration time, by I think it's somewhere between 24 and 48 hours. If you wait too long after the IM has been sent to you, your email will just bounce back if you try to reply.

I hope that what I said is clear; I'm not feeling very concise today. :o

The UUID in the email is an email session ID, not their agent ID. I asked at a townhall once for emails like cienna.rand@users.secondlife.com but they did not want to open up the possibility of spam for us all.

Since your laptop isnt capable of running SL.. you could possibly do a search for their name on the forums and see if they have any IM accts such as yahoo, msn, aim etc and try sending a message that way. Just a thought..
