Is nobody else besides Anshe Chung and only say 3 or 4 other individuals interested in being listed as a Sponsored Link? I found it interesting that there were three bids that won at only ONE DOLLAR! Not only that, but this same individual won 7 of the 20 auctions with a chance to win two more at very low prices.

What are your thoughts on the Sponsored Links?

Well, I guess the experiment is complete.

Few care.

My experience left me with little to no ROI. Infact my sales dropped by about 10% over the week Ive had a link so far.

A main beef (or bone to pick) with Sponsored Links right now is that it's mainly commercial with not a great diversity of stuff. Sure, I like to buy and shop and all that goodness, but where's the wackyness or just locations you go to VISIT? Top Picks reflected this better IMHO, introducing me to the likes of Aimee's Kitchen, the Classic Games Park in Fuschia, the park in Clementina, etc. Great tourist stops.

The first week of Sponsored Links, need I say it again... it had THE GIANT CUBE.

That, for me, was a revelation. :)

I have them turned off on the map view, and anyone who doesn't is a chump.

I tried this too, didn't see much of a rise in traffic.

This is interesting: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=4596&item=8178922544&rd=1

Just a cheesy ad to an IGE affiliate site. One thing I *did* find interesting about it was the following:

From their "About Us" page:
From: someone
We are full time partners with IGE.com and MySuperSales.com, and we have been working with them since May 2003. If you want to reach us from there, email us at Smity@mysupersales.com or Smity@ige.com
...
Our gaming supplies are legitimate supplies that have not been duped, macro’s or copied in anyway.

Hmmmm...sounds reputable and entirely above-board. But wait a minute!
From their "Vendor" page ....

From: someone
Become a vendor

What is a vendor?
Do you farm, buy/sell, have a method to make currency or just want to make some quick cash? By becoming a private vendor you will get the chance to sell your supplies faster then you ever could on your own.

Vendors are allowed to supply us with the following
1. Cheats
2. Currency
3. Items
4. Accounts
5. Enhancements

What you receive
Not only will you receive weekly payments, but you will become a vendor employee of gamepal. You will receive your own custom gamepal vendor account which will help you sell your supplies fast.

Why become a vendor with gamepal
By becoming a vendorthrough us, we will sell your supplies on gamepal, playerauctions, eBay, IGE, Mysupersales etc etc. at no cost to you.

Now, I'm *sure* they would only accept cheats from their vendors in order to pass them along to the game devs, right? And surely they wouldn't purchase both cheats/dupes *and* currency/items from the same person.....y'know...since all their "suppiles are legitimate".....
Readers are invited to draw their own conclusions.

And, just to keep this on-topic, I also liked the old "top picks". I do, however, check out the places listed in the sponsored links when they come up. You knever know what you'll find...

I had mixed results with my sponsored links. The first time was only the second set of links available and I accidently won more than I wanted of them but that turned out to be ok and I had good results. The second time I only had one link and it had no measurable effect.

I was however advertising a web based service so mileage may vary with these due to the need of getting users to leave their Second Life client and go to a webpage. I've expressed interest to the Lindens in the ability for the sponsored links to be able to link to webpages in world. If this change happens I may try the sponsored links again.

I invite you to try MetaAdverse though as an alternative. From the feedback we've gotten from advertisers they seem very pleased with the increase in traffic or sales their campaigns have yielded. Especially when used in combination with an ad vendor to distribute landmarks, notecards, and more when clicked. Currently seen in over 97 sims by more than 1,500 unique avatars a day.

Original Top Pics = bad

The Top Picks category needs to be eliminated.

As the system originally existed it directly competed with commercial SL entities. For example, what if the U.S. govt ran adverts for Apple Computer, or Ford. This is what was happening when the original top picks existed, some of the Linden favorites were sometimes stores.

I have no comment about the quality of "Sponsored Links".

Do we even need it?

They need to make it a Dutch-style auction, so only one person can get one slot. Then it would get more interesting. They only need to post two actions too - one for the normal list and one for the list + website...

I have no interest in its current form because, in theory, you're not supposed to bid on two of the same item in eBay, IIRC. And that will be the only way I'll ever get a slot there I suspect...

I dont ebay.

I would be more likely to try to get my place on the list if the auctions were here on the SL auction page and with an option of bidding in L$. If they are not selling on ebay, nothing to lose by doing the auctions here.

I keep missing these auctions because they close so fast!

I wish they were more than 2 days long!
