Rise of the Machines!
The competition of resources will scale to a new level. Users will buy multiple accounts to compensate for lack of income/new tax schemes/boredom/whatever situation so the prediction may come true..
SL users will spend mass amount of RL cash to buy or upgrade their second computer to further help 'win' the game.

Forum Confusion!
Technical issues, feature suggestions, concepts, in development, in testing, economy etc, and general discussion forums will be moved to a new forum called 'Threads devs & producers don't bother filtering though'

Have a nice day! And hope nobody takes this too seriously. Or.. not seriously enough..?

It really seems like that sometimes. The vast majority of suggestions go unanswered.

Hey, I logged on here early one morning, and there was no less than SIX Lindens reading the forums. So give em a break.

What we could use is a "consideration matrix." John C. used one of those for Quake 2. It was a list of suggestions iD Software had received and the status of the suggestion, i.e. "next point release," "not feasible," "under consideration," etc.

either that or move on

I actually considered getting another account once, just to be able to have more cash, realized that was dumb and simply changed games. Last day in this game is Sepetember 23'rd final. And Darwin, you don't need to respond to this thread, it will be my last post, I promise.

I personally wonder about some people owning multiple accounts. For example, if my calculations are correct, the person at the top in the leader boards for land has almost 5 times as much land as the person in second place, and furthermore, owns literally 2+sims worth of land.

Again, my calculations are scratchy and I'm an English major not a Math major, so...

Is this an undercover Linden, or a multiaccount plot to take over the world?

Hmmm yes... How is it possible for 1 person to have accumulated 5 times their nearest "rival".

Is this one of the numerous "black" activities that exist in SL ?

I am new and bought a block built a small (few prims) building and straight away my stipend only just covers my expenses... Yes I haven't sold anything... I also havent bought too much off people so where does this wealth come from ?

And I have never even seen Rathe ????

It would be just plain wrong to accuse someone of muling accounts if you weren't pretty sure they were...in a lot of cases though, it just don't take a math major to smell something nasty at work. The mules are out there.

$$$MAKE MONEY FAST!!!!
09-10-2003 23:48
***AS SEEN ON NATIONAL TELEVISION***

GET RICH QUICK IN FIVE EASY STEPS!!!!

1) Avoid land taxes by selling your land to someone else for a dollar, right before stipend.

2) Avoid object/light taxes by having an automated rez/de-rez system for your build(s).

3) Avoid the 3500 dollar cap by giving your money to someone else right before stipend.

4) Multiply the effects by having several different accounts. $14.95 aint that much money after all, especially for an american.

5) Rinse, lather, repeat, until you're on top or thoroughly bored.

And dont forget - Congratulate yourself for having accumulated the hugest amount of money in a game where money has little or no use.

Hey, don't knock the autoderez man, I love the idea and am working to incorperate it to my build. Does anyone else consider an autoderez an underhanded tactic?

FYI Powers Dictionary Definition of an Autoderez
autoderez, noun, verb(I dunno I'm an engineer);)
A script which automatically rezzes your build or part thereof when someone is in a certain range to see it, and then deletes it when they leave.

If you wanna know why this person at the top of the boards can afford so much land, go look at he numer of people he has referred. Last time I checked it was well over 50 people. Thats $150,000+ Linden Dollars for all those referrals.

I have a rezzing system at the disco. Saves prims, taxes, and makes it possible to switch between decoartion themes on the fly.
But I checked it with multiple Lindens before even considering using it.
I wasnt specifically referring to it as a cheat, merely as a tax saver. Since taxes are proportional to the strain you put on the servers, rezzing stuff only when you actually need it lets everyone else have more resources to play with. So the decrease in taxes is legal and morally justified.
I even suggested to the Lindens that they incorporate such a system into the server code which would greatly decrease the lag for everyone and enable more detailed builds.
It should be pretty simple for the server to figure out which prims are needed and when. If you're standing 100 meters away from a guy's house, you will surely not be able to see the 0.1 meter vase on his desk very well.
Maybe even have a setting like the draw distance, specifying which size of prims you want to see all the time and which ones can be temporary.
Or something =)

Autorezzers are perfectly justified as Eggy has said. They're also an excellent idea for people who have builds at high altitude. Goodwill Epoch used to have a platform in Shipley or something, and it was waaaaaay high up in the sky. It only existed when you went near it.

I don't think anyone was referring to Cal Rogers, whose rise up the lists, while rapid, was also transparent in its causes. Ingenuity like his deserves reward and even approbation. Cal is a great resident, a mentor, and is always generous with his time and advice, even though he doesn't have all that much in-world time to spare. He does clean, stable builds that are easy on the eye and doesn't use his cash in a showboating, bizarre effort to discommode, confuse and harass his neighbors.

I'm in world almost every night, ask a lot of people. Though it is amazing how big the world is, I see names all over the place sometimes that I *never* meet in world for months.

A lot of it is simply timing. I'm on the west coast and have a full time job as well as managing a business with some partners that keeps me pretty busy until late in the evenings when you can usually find me in SL. Except on Thursdays, when the local bar is having turtle races ;).

You'd be surprised, they actually only last about 15-20 seconds. The time it takes to get a crowd of a couple hundred people who have been drinking to be quiet and not point at the turtles so they can actually start the race is another story though ;).

WEll it really depends on the distance. I remember reading somewhere that turtles walked at 2km/h (humans do it at 5km/h)
In 20 seconds a turtle could therefore walk around 11 centimeters, which is about the size of a fist.
Unless they are special racing turtles.
Or teenage mutant ninka ones.

I can't recall the distance off the top of my head. But it's not that far, probably about 4 feet. Basically they're put in the center of a circle with a radius of about 4 feet and the first turtle to run out of the circle wins.

And in between all of this is the obligatory exchange of greens.. (err.. vegtables of course! the turtles have to eat ;)).

Rathe...Please don't get me wrong.

When i said I haven't seen you it was meant to illustrate how I am impressed by the ability of someone to accumulate "wealth" while not being visible to me... I know I am on at weird times and that there are many many people I have not seen...

I Would love you to share the Rathe story on empire building as I already am at Zero growth by Stipend and I have built nothing in particular... My grand scheme for a mammoth Stone temple with floating dancefloor attached by chains to four huge obelisks came crashing down quickly due to lack of funds...

I know ...start small ...grow then build...but I love the fantasy aspects of SL and wanted to push the envelope....

But I certainly see how newbies will have trouble "competing" with existing SLers who own heaps of land etc....I had very hard trouble finding "appropriate "land for my vision and am sure others are having same troubles....
