ARGH! Cell phone users in public bathrooms

Does anyone else find this annoying and rude?
I swear, more and more people are using their cell phones in public bathrooms. I wouldn't want to listen to toilets flushing (among other things) if I was talking to someone.
It happens all the time in the ladies room here.

Does this happen in mens rooms too?

I've seen it once or twice in the men's room (and been on the receiving end of a 'bathroom call' here and there), but thankfully not very often. And never at Linden since we're all robots who don't need to eat, sleep or poop.

When I visited the US, the hotel I stayed in had a phone right next to the toilet. It was easier to reach for the phone than it was for the toilet paper.

Receiving bathroom calls - yuk. Quite apart from the horrible echo-y quality most tiled rooms give you, the other noises? *urgh*

And while I'm sitting there contemplating life, the universe, shopping lists or whatever, I really *do not* want to hear about what you got up to last night with the guy from accounting...

Cell phones are one technology I have refused to accept. There may be a time when I have to have one, but I am going to put it off for as long as possible. When I am away from the house, I dont need to hear from anyone except the ones I am with or people I may see during the outing. I dont understand the need to be reached 24/7.

I know the arguement that they are good for emergencies, but anytime I over hear a conversation on one, its "Im at the park", "Im at the grocery store", "Im somewhere your not". Who cares? Tell me about it next time you see me.

I saw a couple last week at the State Fair. Instead of enjoying each other and the activities, each of them had their own cell phone and were talking to someone else. It just blew my mind.

I finally got one in July but that was because everyone's been bugging me to get one. I commute an hour each way (4yrs now) and I can see where one would come in handy. But they are a pain. Mine is usually off unless I need it.

Bathroom calls are great. Esp. when you flush and your friend realises what you've been doing while talking to you for the past few minutes. Priceless. :)

If I go into the ladies room at work, and there's people on the phone I ask them politely to leave. If not, then I start flushing the toilets repeatedly until they get the point.

Had one student call me a bitch for asking her to leave.
Ah, the joys of working on a college campus.

I finally got a cell phone last month, because my brother didn't want his anymore. I ended up getting rid of my land line because it's easier for me to just use my cell phone rather than my land line. More people can get a hold of me on my cell phone rather than on my land line, since i'm rarely home except late at night, and that's usually when i'm playing SL.

As far as bathroom calls go, if my phone goes off in a restroom, usually I answer it and say i'll call you back then hang up.

I've had a cellphone since they looked like this:

http://www.clintcentral.com/chris2/storno220.jpg

Note the elegant contours and sleek styling...
Marvel at the single line, ten digit L.E.D. display...
Gasp as the rubber-duck arial kills thousands of braincells with each call...
Swoon at the one hour talk-time / 10 hour standby... and the fact that most LAPTOPS don't have battery's that big anymore...
And scream @#&$! when you drop the bugger on your foot!

(Thats my latest phone to the left for comparison)

I just want to add, that in the mid/late eighties, when I had that housebrick of a phone, I didn't want to be seen in public with it, let alone in a public bathroom!

I guess the 'chatting while you go(!)' phenomenon is fairly recent...

Haha I agree with Pirate.
Anyway, in my experience, guys usually don't hang out in restrooms long enough to chat with friends. I'm usually in & out and don't even think about talking on the phone in there. Plus, men's bathrooms have urinals and it's a pain to bust out a phone while one hand is being used for aiming.

Eddie:

I remember my dad's "mobile" phone which was double that size -- basically a phone *and* base that you plugged into the car lighter and lugged around with a little handle on the top. I swear the thing weighed about 25 pounds. We took it out in public. >_<

Yep, I remember the ole Bag phones, Man those were annoying. Like carrying around a duffle bag.

But as far as restroom callers, I'd rather have them talk in there than on the road.

I found my very old bag-phone thingie a few weeks ago. It's got this laptop type case and a telephone handset sticking out on a cord. Very heavy! :P

I never talk on the phone in the bathroom.

I finally caved in and got a cellphone about a year ago. Proably the biggest waste of 45 bucks a month ever. I hardly ever have it on, and the battery has never been discharged more than 25%.

On the other hand, I never leave home without it.:D

Will I ever get one, no, unless they make it a law or impossible to not have one.

People have lost human contact like in Lokis' post. I have seen this all the time in our area (Washington D.C.) Like you have to drive and talk at the same time and juggle a coke and smoke and do your make-up or whatever(this I have seen truely on several occasions and it always is one person multi-tasking).

I was at the theater and 4 went off at one time.. I was in church 2 went off. The door of the church that I visited has a sign, "Turn off your Cell Phone". I was in a restaurant, this guy at the table next to us telling the person on the phone what he was having and also what others' food looked like. It was annoying but the waiter came over and asked him to either stop talking on his phone or leave.

Peace,
Oh joyous peace, oh great...now my phone is going off!!!!!

Once, I was at a cinema, about halfway thru the film, when the mobile belonging to the guy next to me went off. He didn't just turn it off, he answered it and started chatting! This, as you can imagine, really ticked me off, so I told him in no uncertain terms that if he doesnt turn it off immediately, he WILL refund the cost of my cinema ticket. He appologised and turned it off, and then MY mobile started ringing!!!! I was so terribly embarrased!
The ONE TIME I forget to turn my mobile off, it teaches me a lesson!

So ever since then, I am almost anal about setting my mobile phone to forward calls straight to my voicemail if I'm in inappropriate public place (cinema, bank, resteraunt, etc).

While cell phones in movies and restauraunts may be disturbing. What drives me up the wall in these locations is screaming kids. I think it is the height of rudeness to bring a young child to a movie (other than family movies), or a restaurant (other than say McDonalds or Chuckee Cheeses).
It is even worse when the parent wont get up and remove the child until it stops crying.

Well behaved kids are fine with me. Screaming kids who run amok are not. :)

Reason not to use Cell Phones in Bathrooms!

I think this article explains it all:

OKay, back to talking on phones in the bathroom...

For a while, I had a very swank illegal sublet in Manhattan. There was a phone in the bathroom - and more importantly, there was a HUGE tub with jacuzzi jets that you could practicly swim in. Any calls I got on Sunday morning between nine and ten am (prime family calling time) were almost inevitably answered from a bubble bath! No calls, however, were ever answered from the toilet.
