WTF is up with the sandboxes? I tried working in 3 separate ones today and all I saw was: guns going off everywhere, fire bombs blowing up in every corner, vehicles zooming around running into builds, people shouting what they have for sale. I repeat - WTF? Can't this be policed a bit better? I don't want to have to sit there and babysit a bunch of punks.

I agree. Cordova and the other sanboxes there are NOT for testing or playing with weapons. It's gotten to the point where you can't fly through without being shot at with an RPG or orbited by a push gun.
GO TO THE COMBAT SANBOX TO TEST WEAPONS. _____________________

I agree the sandbox sims are a bit... shall we say... 'rowdy'. Just holler at an online Linden, they'll take care of the problem if they think there is one.

Sapphire, sorry you're seeing the overall influence of what $9.95 accounts have wrought, but you're better off in the islands or the no-script sandbox perhaps. I'm trying to start building in the sandboxes again, but it is a choad-magnet for whatever reason lately.

Platforms the size of the entire sim are completely unnecessary, and a waste of resources, no matter how "cool" people think they are. |

Especially when the creator doesn't take them down. Please, do as he said. Or better yet, clean up when you leave the sim! Gasp! _____________________

This is why some of us have been asking for months now for a no-script sandbox.
Sadly, the lindens ignore us... |

I thought mistakenly it was somehow magically all no-script, but it is the usual first 30m ban, then above that I think scripted works.

Thats what I do. The ground is too messy. By the way, anyone have a good anti greifer script? I do! Well late one night when no Lindens were around, I got a message from several people in the sandbox that a group was wreaking havoc on them. So I poped up, sure enough I gots tossed around. Until I took out my plywood cube of death! Lets just say I owned Cardova in about 5 seconds! It was the best solution for that time! I got a couple of + ratings and "You should be a Linden". So if you ever need a hand in clearing cardova! gimme a shout! ![]() _____________________

Hmm, think 2 more combat sims and moving all combat sims onto an Island would help?
Hell, even Jessians have posted that they would like Jessy and Rausch to be a seperate Island. Also, do those new sandboxes right on the boarder of the vehicle sims effect either one negativly? When I saw the positioning of the sandboxes I thought "er... hmm... wonder how Huns is going to like this" (not to pick on Huns, but whenever I think vehicle sims I think of Huns and Ben Linden since they seem to be the two who use it most)_____________________

Alas, the Lindens have done even slightly worse than nothing regarding the asshats who think that guns in SL are really cool. I find this rather comic as a gun that is capable of destroying an unarmed populace is easier to make than a working child's swing. Recent messages of the day have explicitly advocated weapon play and "enforcement" of the categorical imperative is as non-existant as when you left. Newbies are now given guns in their initial inventory to make jerkiness even easier.
The only mitigation is that the world has grown big enough that it is possible to avoid the kids with guns by obscurity. As the sandboxes are de facto griefer retreats LL has essentially declared every other sim as the appropriate place for "traditional" sandbox development. Indeed there is even a slight incentive for experimenting on your own land as you get dwell for it. Furthermore, as recent news has shown, there seems no adverse action for making run-away experiments that affect multiple sims. Hell, putting sim-lagging sensors on other's land throughout every damn sim in the world isn't viewed as sanctionable by LL. Under such lackadasical "rule" the only rational choice for an experimental developer would be to hold land in two sims and alternate between them should you accidentally crash one. This un-policy begets such un-neighborly conduct among those who would like to be respectful of others. George Bush would be proud of this regime. |

The new no-script sandbox has been working well for me lately. The only downside so far is the litter from bullets and particles that occur when someone figures out they can't shoot too well sub<30m, but I guess that is to be expected. It certainly allows you to concentrate, unlike Cordova.
Not sure how life is in the new script-enabled sandbox or the island one, but at least there is a partial haven. We've argued against combat in a variety of threads, and despite a dedicated place for it, once again the rule of 'people are broken' takes hold and defeats the effort to contain it somehow. Islands may be the answer, but you can't technically enforce social behavior, ultimately. |
