Well this is just to let everyone that were on the 1.2 preview servers with me this morning know, that I just didn't log off without saying a word... My power supply caught fire! My computer just shut off while I was in the middle of a discussion. I tried to hit the power button, but nothing happened. Right after that moment.. I was like... "damn something smells burnt!!" Took me about 0.1 seconds to realize that it was coming from inside my desk, where my computer was!!! OMG CRAP! Took about 5 seconds to get the box out (all my wires are connected to the back, so I just unscrewed my vid cable and pulled!) Anyways... their was black smoke coming out of the power supply, I grab the screwdriver (always in a handy spot) unscrew the 4 screws in the back... and PULLED! (after inspection later, I didn't damage any connections in my haste) I opened a window and left it hanging outside, still puffing out black smoke. I'm pretty sure that tyhe fan stopped workign and just overheated! Or something arced!

Well i'm ok, but a little pissed. I have an exam tonight... I figure that this was an act of God! Tomorrow morning I will go pick up a new power supply.

Good news, a first I thought it was the CPU... go thing it wasn't. The reste of my box seems ok, havn't tried it yet. The top of my case is a little black (the inside) and still smells a bit funny!

So all this to say i'm sorry to who ever was around me at the time when I just logged off for no reason, or without saying bye!

P.S. i'm on a super slow (other house comp) writing this!

I'm sure LL could use this as a marketing angle somehow:

"SL 1.2 is so much faster, it's SMOKIN'!"

Sorry Nexus, hope to see you back soon... =)

Could be a sucky off brand power supply, or maybe its dust. Its amazing how much dust can creep inside a sealed computer.

I had a monitor that caught fire once. Well, it was smoking, anyway. No flames. Eddie, if you'd been there I'm sure you could have had a good laugh!
It WAS funny, maybe because it was still under warranty.

Antecs shouldn't catch fire unless you stuff them full of dryer lint or something.

I had a monitor shoot flame out the back once, in the throes of a smelly and terrible death. it was sad.

oh nexus, so sorry, the rest of your system should be okay as long as the components didn't get too hot. still it's very scary.

everybody please remember to never throw liquid at an electrical fire. the last monitor fiasco i saw happened when a student poured a coke down the back of it. talk about sparks flying! we lose around two power supplies a month. once somebody smelled it and pulled the fire alarm and a good laugh was had by all.
