I see everyone referring to PRIMS , but I have no idea what they are.
Are they related to what you build or the land you have. Can your Avatar cause prims?

Hmm...we'll see if I beat anyone to this :)

Prims stand for Primitives. It's just another method of creating 3D objects. When you go and try to make a house or something you get to choose from a series of shapes like a sphere, a cube, a cone, a cylinder, and the like right? Those are Primitives.

You take the prims, do mathematical functiosn to it like rotation, twists, and stuff and combine a bunch of them to gether to create all of those intricate shapes.

In 3D graphics world, there's many ways of creating the objects. You've probably heard of "polygons" before right? Primitives are just another method.

However, on SL, seach sim (it's the square of land that corresponds to a server) can only handle X number of primitives at a time. Thus the prim limit :)

Camille,

a prim is an objec that is created through the build tool. A "prim" has certain pre-defined shapes that can teaked or altered to get the shape you want/need to build whatever it is your are building. When you hear someone refer to "prims" they are referring to the actual objects used to create a house, or a ride, or anything else in SL. I suggest taking an intro to building class -- you can learn a lot about it there :).

thanks!
That makes so much more sense now.
I will try and take a building class but sometimes with the time difference I'd be up really late. :)
