The 1.5.6 preview now has what we think will be the final candidate. Announcement is here. If all goes well we will deploy it to the main grid tomorrow. Edit -- changed the title to reflect that 1.5.6 is GO! Downtime will be 5:30 - 10:00 AM Pacific.

The Preview was temporarily down. We backed out of one change, and removed some items from the release notes that our testers found were not actually fixed. The preview is now up and the new downloads are available at: http://secondlife.com/preview

Wait, are newbies still going to be homeless in 1.5.6? No one here understands that particular change.

That item was pulled from the release notes because it was partially incorrect, and the correct part was not a very important change for users. The original confusing wording was my bad.
The problem was that some newbies would come into SL and see their Home location off in the void when they brought up the world map. To solve that problem we just don't give newbies Home locations until they leave the "Orientation Island". After that they do indeed have a home.

Alright. What about another stress test (i.e. Find X And Win A K)? You haven't had one since you updated the preview.

I agree with Mole (gasp), I read somewhere there would be another one and haven't seen it announced yet.

Andrew, I can't think you enough for taking the lead on communicating release notes, release updates and testing. This kind of communication is essential. We're more than willing to be a beta-release team... crap, we're addicted to it! Keep these lines of communication open. I also salute the preview / extended-preview of a x.x.# release candidate. I think its safe to say "lesson learned" from the rushed 1.5.0 release. Regards, -Flip

Andrew, didn't I remember you or Cory saying that 1.5.6 would bring a toggle to let us disable the Edit mode camera repositioning? Maybe I'm remembering a dream I had, and by extention, outing myself as having the absolute lamest subconcious in the history of civilization?

From: Moleculor Satyr They still haven't had a successful stress test of the preview. That's not a good sign. Are you saying the preview failed under stress or the preview has not had a stress test? If the latter then that can only be our own fault for not stressing it...

Time Confusion
11-04-2004 07:41
As I live in an area that goes by EST, and you're going down PST how is it that the system is down now (It's 10:40 EST right now)? Wouldn't it be three hours from EST that you would be unavailable?
And...when you go back up, what time is that EST?

If the latter then that can only be our own fault for not stressing it... I'm saying it's had one stress test. That failed. They updated the preview, annouced they were going to have an annouced stress on Monday. They never announced it.
