Is there any official documentation on the ins and outs of group land? There is info to be found here and there, but it hard compiling it all into a logical document. I am looking for something that explains how deeding to a group effects your tier, who can do what on group land, how much extra land the group gets for deeding land, etc, etc, etc.

I dont deal with group land much myself, but I am frequently asked about group land and I would like to have a solid resource that will answer all the concerns. If someone has a notecard explaining it all, I will happily accept that in world as well. Thanks for helping out with good, clear info about group land.

Here are some things...

1. Groups can own land just like people.

2. Group must have their land tier donated to them by regular people.

3. The land tier donated is "borrowed" from the person donating the land tier to the group. The land tier donation can be added or removed from the group at any time. The land tier that is donated comes out of the donor's account. The donor still pays for their land tier, according to the particular account they have setup through Linden Lab.

Example: Suzie Linden has a land tier of 1536sqm in her account (Premium account 512sqm and an additional 1024sqm). She donates 512sqm to her group "The Big Q's". She now has 1024 sqm available to use as she pleases, and the 512sqm she donated to the group is available to the group to utilize.

4. Groups get to own 110% of the land tier donated to the group.

5. If the donations of land tier to the group is not enough to cover the actual land owned by the group, a Linden will forcibly seize some of the group land to bring the owned land to within the donated land tier. Usually Linden Lab gives 7 days grace on this.

Example: if the group has 2048sqm of land donated to it, they can own up to 2253sqm of land (the 110% bonus). Let's say the group owns 2128sqm of land, which is below 2253sqm. Let's say Suzie takes back her 512sqm land tier donation. The group now only has 1690sqm of land tier available, less than what it can support. Within 7 days, a Linden will confiscate some of the land (hopefully the'll work with the group on it) to bring the group into compliance.

6. ANY OFFICER of the group can sell the land to whomever they wish (even themselves for L$0) without prior approval from other officers or members. There is nothing you can do if a rogue officer "steals" all the land from others. Period. So be careful.

7. All L$ paid monies for daily dwell is paid equally to all group officers and members.

8. All land sale proceeds of group land are equally distributed amongst all group officers and members.

9. All dwell used to calculate Developer Incentives is split amongst those people donating land tier to the group, according to how much they donate.

10. Only group officers can plant trees and grass on the land.

11. Group officers and members count towards dwell on the land (where on private land, the land owner doesn't count towards dwell).

12. All land options that cost L$ (e.g. FIND listings, L$30 a week) are charged equally to all officers and members of a group.

Also: The fee for listing a groups land in the "Find" directory is split among the groups members. Although, this is usually insignificant unless the group owns and publishes many different pieces of land.

Sorry, Loki. But, I am afraid there is no REAL dirt in SL. All the dirt here is virtual. Sorry to disappoint.

Another question on lands
10-28-2004 03:25
I got another question on lands for groups.
Now I own something like 2660m2 (5 first lands)of land and I have to pay 20 $ for it.
I would like to know if I can sell land to my gruop member (we are 5 people, I ll sell 512m2 each, so everyone in the group own 512m2 ) and then every member of the group will donate land to the group.
I ve already donated lands to the group, 2 times, but after a few days the land becomes public and I had to rebuy it 2 times :(
The idea was to give all first land of the group members to the group, but as told, i ve done it twice and twice the land was gone pubblic, at least I (group officer) bought it all with my name but now I have to pay real money.
Anyone can help me telling me how to donate land to the group avoiding it becomes public??

Gnaw, about deeding land...

I dont think this is your issue, but groups have to have three members in them to remain a valid group. Groups with less than three members null themselves after three days. So, make sure you have a good group and the third member is not quitting the group.

I got this card from Nova Linden, it was written by Jill Linden. There is a known issue at the bottom that might be your problem, not sure. Contact support if this info does not help you to solve your issue.

So you want to deed land to a group? Here's how:

First thing you need to do is have or create a group. Assuming you already have that, we'll go from there. In the EDIT menu (up top) pick GROUPS and select the goup you wish to allocate to. Under the LAND tab enter the amount you wish to allocate and click the button SET CONTRIBUTION. Then click OK to exit.

Next step is to go to the land and right click it to get the pie menu. From here, select ABOUT LAND. On the GENERAL tab under the owners name there is a group name. If it is blank, click SET then activate the appropriate group and again click SET.

Now, check "ALLOW DEED TO GROUP" and click DEED.

("OWNER MAKES CONTRIBUTION WITH DEED" will combine the steps if you would like a shortcut. This is assuming you wish to deed and contribute equal amounts.)

If you get an error that your group does not have enough land credits, first check that you selected the correct group and you allocated enough land in the first step above.

Known issue:
If you have a parcel that used to be owned just by one owner and is now to be group land, there is sometimes an issue with being able to allocate land to a group as the system is seeing the owner as trying to own double the land as opposed to trying to change his or her allocation. In this case please email support@lindenlab.com for assistance.
