Greeting's all I have a question about the whispers that were going around when I first joined SL Before I signed up here I was told SL would have voice convo's for 2005. Was this just hot air or was this really a game plan? I am sure there might be bandwidth issues or something like this might up the cost to be a member here. I would really like some feed back on this topic. Most of my friends and family all transferred over here from There.com with the voice there everything seemed more closer and personnel. I enjoy SL but I think with voice packs it would be impeccable.

You mean voice chat? It's doubtful you'll see it in 2005. Unless it's part of that new client they're working on, and a miracle occurs and they manage to get it finished this year.

It was on Corey's roadmap for a while, but apparently the lindens weren't happy with voice filtering (allowing a guy to sound like a girl, for instance) tech enough to release it. Sooo, wait until that happens. Probably not for a year or more. LF

However, Yahoo, MSN, TeamSpeak and Skype (sp?) all work just fine while in-world. So you can chat voice at anytime if you wish.

You know, for being a person who normally hates talking on the phone (BANANULAR PHOOOONNNNEEE... ahem), I've been using skype a LOT lately. It's good stuff LF

I personally run a 32 slot Ventrilo server for my voice communications needs. It provides that missing functionality in the SL client, and allows my dev team to stay in touch and on track with the project vision. I have also begun handing out accounts to players that frequent our project often. Ventrilo has superior voice quality and is easily maintained
