This question concerns the world map picture that can be found on the second life website. Why are there repeats of terrain blocks? I would think that with all the creative people they have working on it, they wouldn't have to repeat squares. just very curious!

If you're refering to what I think you're refering to, those are all instances of the Prelude island (except one, what's a private island that was won in a contest), and none of them are connected to the mainland (ie: you can't get there from here).

I think she means each sim is physically square, as opposed to a cool shape like, say, Texas.
The simple answer is that each square is a sim, aka simulator, aka server. They are 256m x 256m. The make up of land and water is primarily up to us, even though some land is owned by Lindens to preserve some basic outlines.
Does that answer your question or did you mean something else altogether?

Could also be Boardman/Brown and De Haro/Green where you're not allowed to terraform the land.
