Teeny,

I've been recently trying to get ahold of you in world, but to no avail. I desprately wish to talk with you, so I come here to the forums. I dropped the following letter on you a few days ago, but it must have gotten lost, so here it is again, hopefully it finds you this time.

From: someone
Teeny,

You've been an excellent nehibor over the past months that we've been next to each other, and I've sincerely enjoyed our exchanges. I'm writing this note in the spirit of that friendship, and as you read it, I'd like very much for you to keep in mind that I have nothing but the highest regard and respect for you.

Recently, I've been purchasing all the land in Clara for a large project. The initial genesis of this project is in the air above my original property. It's going to incorperate a large number of high quality builds, including such things as the ampitheatre, and many flying islands, over a landscape of smaller tropical islands. I plan to start holding events and classes on this land, and I'm going to try and revitalize some of the core sims, bring people back to the "old world" all the while showing people what Second Life is really capable of in terms of creation and diversity.

At this point I've accquired almost all of the other significant land in this simulator, and now I come to you. The way my project is currently designed, I need your land to progress. I've included a map of current land ownership in this simulator on your property, so that you can see that I am indeed serious about my intentions and that I need your land.

I realize that you've been living in Clara for quite some time, and are probably quite loathe to leave it. But still, I come to you with hope, asking you to consider my offer. I simply can't do what I want for this sim without your property.

I'm more than willing to pay you a large amount of money, in either USD through PayPal or L$ through the game, I'm sure you'll find that I'm more than generous in the purchase of this last parcel. With that I'm sure you could find a much larger, nicer piece of land in almost any other simulator of your choice.

Please, consider what I've said here, and could you let me know when I can get in touch with you to discuss what I've said here? I do sincerely appreciate having had you for a nehibor, and I'd like to think that we could work something out here between us.

Sincerely,

Aleksandr Martov

I hope to hear from you soon, as this is a matter of dearest importance to me, and I would very much like to see a resolution.

AM

Still, no word from Teeny. Other forum browsers, feel free to weigh in here, one way or the other. I love a good discussion.

You know, I really feel vaguely sympathetic for Teeny Leviathan.

I was in a similar situation. I bought land in a sim back around 1.2 or 1.3 at L$1/m. Most of it was public land (I'm probably one of the last ten people to have purchased public land by just randomly stumbling across it), and it just so happened to neighbor a friend of mine who sold me a bit more at L$1/m just to give me something slightly more substantial to build on (with the agreement that I'd sell the land back to her at the same price if I ever moved).

I've been on that land ever since. A club that rivaled Club Elite (quite literally, since it was the #2 club in all of SL for a good month or more) actually existed within that sim up until the point of private islands becoming available. Despite the massive lag inherent to large parties, I never moved. Hell, I didn't even complain. Lag and massive parties are fundamental parts of SL.

My friend (who sold me part of my land) moved out, and was replaced with someone who was quite creative, and quite nice as well, but had building and artistic skills rivaling my own, and believe me, that's a BAD thing. Build a large , half built castle in your mind, then texture it with giant purple and lavender low-res textures. That's what I had sitting right next to my land for a while. I didn't mind. She was a friend then too, and we actually worked on the Game Dev together. The inside looked better anywho.

Then she moved out, and a mall (or two) moved in next door. THAT was a bit tough, living next to a couple giant glowing malls, but again, I didn't mind. They didn't bother me, I didn't bother them. Hell, I even let them know when problems like trash littering their lot came up. Then they sold their land and left.

Then the club moved out and on to a private sim. The land, which comprised more than 45,000m2 was sold to a group that had owned an entire neighboring sim for quite some time. Their builds were decent, and their general attitude was quite friendly. However, they moved into the sim, and immeiately started offering to buy my land from me, or even exchange it for a larger chunk of land in a snow sim. Apparently the goal was to own all the land that could be owned in the sim, so that they could get the Lindens to sell the protected waterways to them as well (which I don't think the Lindens should ever be doing, but that's their decision). I was told (and this is a paraphrased quote) that "They didn't spend all that money aquiring all that land without expecting to meet the goal of owning the entire sim."

Now, this vaguely bothered me, but since it -is- my land they're trying to buy, I do have the right to say no. So I did. After all, it's my land, and I've lived there through clubs, parties, nearby bingo games (which still go on, and I don't mind), giant purple castles and glowing malls. I liked my Mature, free-terraform old sim, and I certainly didn't NEED (nor could I afford) a larger chunk of land in a snow sim. Besides, I really didn't see a need for the waterways to vanish, and I certainly didn't see any of my other sim residents suddenly moving out either (one of whom had JUST moved into the sim after the same group traded her land in this sim for her old land), so I saw no reason to leave. If others weren't leaving, my leaving wouldn't help the group any, and besides, I did promise to sell my land back to the person who sold it to me.

Now, I like the people in this group. They're a nice, creative bunch, and for the few weeks they've owned land in my sim, they've built some really nice, creative things. There was a rather pretty (and shiny!) blend of a digital sound board + chapel + club thing that they had going nearby that was rather pretty, and the giant, 100m tall tree was cool too. There's a sculpture or two nearby, a cave, a cabin, and... I think it's a pig. I'm not sure. Anywho, there's lots of rather pretty builds and stuff out here, all without the group owning the entire sim. What they had going was rather nice. Certainly, they kept coming back and asking if they could buy my land, even offering to let me keep building where I was while they owned the land instead, but I kept saying "No" and things stayed just like that. Eventually they DID manage to buy out one of the five or so residents in the sim (who either left SL because of that, or left SL and sold the land in the process), but the rest of us are still here.

Of course, while the builds were nice and it seemed things were going just fine... they've now decided to sell the land again. Why, I'm not sure. Maybe it was too expensive? Maybe they got tired of waiting? I don't know. All I know is that the entire plot is back up for sale again, and I'm going to have another set of new neighbors sometime in the future (though at more than L$9/m, it probably won't be any time soon). Essentially, nothing has changed, and life in my sim is the same as it's always been... I'm here, and the few others who've been here as long as I have are here too, and everything else keeps changing.

I've never owned land elsewhere, and I have no intention of moving. Heck, I've even recently restructured my account to where I can afford an extra 512m2 and save 50 cents a month, so I'm looking to expand my land holdings! I ain't moving any time soon.

What's the moral of this story? There's two.

First, do you really need that whole sim? The group that is my most recent neighbor built a ton of rather nice looking stuff without owning the whole sim, even though they wanted to. And as you say, most of your build is going to be up in the air, and Teeny's build is on the ground. It's not like you two will be interfering with each other or anything.

Second, and most importantly, some of us 'ol coots like our land. We don't care if you offer us equal or better land elsewhere, or tons of cash. I'm sure you're willing to be more than generous in your purchase of the land, but some of us just -don't- want to move. We're stubborn like that. The best you can do is just build around us.

If she decides to sell to you, that's fine. If not, that's fine too. Hell, if you're really nice, maybe you can work WITH her without making her sell her land?

P.S., The purchase of Teeny's 5323m2 will not make you the sole owner of land in the sim, even ignoring the existence of Linden Land. There's still the 128m2 parcel sitting underneath the observatory that you need to purchase.

Alex, you aren't the first person to want Teeny's land, and you probably won't be the last.

That has so much alternative connotation it makes me snicker.

Coming from Devlin, he probably wrote it that way on purpose.

Clara is an old sim. It could be a dead lifetimer account..?

It should be against the TOS to ask people for their land. If you want to start a large project, make sure to get the resources for it first.
Plenty of whole sims up for auction. Buy one. Too expensive, buy a private island.
Never, ever, bother your neighbors.

Oh, a response! Not much of a response, but you have read my messages, and are intentionally ignoring me. Gotcha.

Fine then, you don't want to sell, I can respect that. I will stop pushing, then. I only wish you had answered earlier.

And a future event accepted as inevitable? Hardly. I just had great plans for the sim, and wanted your property to execute them. But I wouldn't want someone to keep bothering me, were I in your position, so I will do likewise and stop bothering you.

That said, I DO still have some issues to talk with you about, if we are going to continue to be sim-mates, and it would be nice if you would at least respond to my IM's.

Thanks.
