This is an appeal to all those happy people in SL... Research has shown that only 60% of people actually laugh out loud when they type LOL. Significantly fewer roll on the floor laughing, approximately 12%, in fact. But, by far the most disturbing trend is the 5% to 6% of the populace that have begun to laugh their asses off. ER rooms have reported a 4 fold increase in instances of Second Life Ass Prosthesis (SLAP). The problem is compounded by huge numbers of people falsely claiming to LMAO & causing a misdirection of essential ass saving resouces. So the next time you read a pithy comment - THINK before you TYPE. It may just save someones ass. (says the worse offender of them all... )

SLARP = Second Life ARse Prosthesis You can use a SLAP, but you need to 110v/220v adapter.

But the more accurate SSBMO (Slight Smile Before Moving On) or CCFBREASHS (Condescending Chuckle Followed By Rolled Eyes And Slow Heavy Sigh) don't have the same ring to them as a hearty LOL.

LASEFOA (laughing at someone elses fallen-off ass) Seriously... where's my ass? Edit: Sorry. It's 8:30pm, I'm still in the office, just guzzled my 100th cup of coffee, was hung-over this morning, and I'm aware that I'm straining the humour

I suggest that we adopt "Quietly Registering Appreciation" (or "QRAp" , which can used in response to a wider range of statements, in addition to jokes and humorous situtations.

I personally have never typed "LOL" to indicate laughter. I think its silly. I've always preferred to type "haha" for ordinary laughter, or "tee hee" for silly laughter or "muhahaha" for mischievous laughter.
As far as laughing my ass off, I usually type "ouch" for that. Fortunately it rarely occurs.

My first couple weeks here I played two truths one lie and everyone thought "I never use 'LOL' in normal conversation" was the lie I too prefer 'haha' or 'hehe'.

yes, I avoid "lol" at all costs. I've been on AOL since 1994-ish, and... ugh... I officially hate almost all computer lingo.
