Time for a New SL Banner?

Is it time to change up the SL banner?

Personally, I'm getting tired of it. How about that avatar on the left of the banner with the Fu-Manchu mustache and face tattoo? Looking at that 50 times a day gets old.

The other thing that's bugging me is left to right, Fu-Manchu face, bronze robot, and soul patch, all have the exact same pose -- the head cocked to the side with the shoulders at an angle (Fu Manchu has been mirrored). We should have at least one unique pose for every character.

If it weren't for the lovely Aimee Webber with her hamster t-shirt, I would have been driven mad long ago.

Let's get those PR monkeys out of their cages to snap some new photos (preferably ones that aren't overtly sexist) and update the banner!

I agree it does need to be changed... hmm maybe a new pic every week... I better hush cus i think poor Bub has enough to worry about right now

I think theres more important things to add/change on the website than the banner, while I can't think of any examples, I'm sure theres some.

Of course if Bub wants to change it, by all means... I have faith in Bub's designs... whether this is a good thing to have faith in... I'm not quite sure.

Yes, I realize that these aren't the type of banners you are looking for...

there are many webgraphic saavy people out in the sl community. maybe if bub published specs, people from sl could submit banners. might save bub some work. and it would be a cool way to display new stuff in sl.

I like seeing the old classics but fresh rotation does help keep things diverse.

Or perhaps a part of the banner could be used for breaking SL news too and other info.

i definitely agree with having it changed.

it would be groovy to see different faces up there every.. well, maybe not every week, but every month would be good.

then those monthly images could be used for a RL calendar for the following year. i have a design that just popped into my head.. and i like it.

but yeah.. change em.

also, we could start a thread where we attach our own submissions for it. the specs are fairly simple:

I like this idea. Some rules could be set by LL to make sure that the banners submitted aren't ads, show nudity or anything else not appropriate for a professional site about SL. It would be interesting to see what people come up with. Maybe a few of the banners could be chosen and then be set-up to alternate as you explore the site.

Don't know if I'm making much sense... shouldn't post right after waking-up.

i posted the dimesions and file size above, all we need to do now is make them.

proposed idea:

start a thread for this specific purpose. make whatever banners you feel like making, then post them to said thread.. from there the Lindens can meander through them and choose whichever ones meet certain loose criteria: correct format ( .jpg ), the correct dimensions, and approximate file size. in addition to those, they would scour the entries for those that look "clean" enough and that don't tread over the "PG" line.

not sure where the best place for this would be though.. wait, i have another idea. we could either start an in-world group, thereby allowing for a group thread where the entires could all be posted.. or we could just request a sticky thread in a forum that already exists (i.e., Gallery or Feature Feedback).

in the meantime, start snapping and 'shopping those banners! we can start off with a thread in Gallery, then possibly have it moved to Feature Feedback if all goes well.

there are probably some "look and feel" specs that need to be stated.

The banner needs more boobies. Isn't that what SL is all about?

I personally would love to see a banner full of girl avies doing totally girly things; getting their nails done, getting their hair done, going shopping, trying lacy clothes on, cleaning the bathroom, pushing around a baby carriage with cute little box-babies in it.

Ahh, I don't know....maybe cleaning the kitchen instead of the bathroom. I can't quite figure out what the banner's missing, but it needs something. I'm not able to put my finger on it, but I'd like to be able to look at the banner and say, "Jeeves, by god that banner is blatantly.....".......SOMETHING. I don't know. Maybe it'll come to me tonight while I'm sleeping.

Maybe each time you reload the page, a new banner comes up, out of a pool of hundreds? Or too inefficient for those on slow connections, that? Maybe each hour then... or something... I'm looking forward to the surprises. How long before we have an avatar-involved ad banner there similar to Sponsored Links?
