How do we wear a face makeup skin that won't take away from our body skin?

I just started playing a few days ago..someone was nice and gave me a body skin with nipples and privates. I went shopping and bought some makeup..but after putting on the makeup my nipples and privates dissappeared and my body is just bare and plain. How do you get around this problem?

I'm pretty sure that under appearance there should be two seperate boxes for body skins/textures. The face and body skin boxes.

There shouldn't have been a problem, unless this makeup you bought also came with some body touch ups of its own? Which then would have replaced your genital/nipple skin. Unfortunately, you can't layer body skins on top of eachother.

For example, if you wanted nipples genitals AND tattoos, you'd have to find or make an entire body texture that includes them all in one.

Try going into appearance and resetting the skin for your face to the new makeup texture, and the body skin to the realistic parts texture you were given.

Hope this helps.

Thanks..i'll check it out and see..not sure how to make textures on my own though if that's what you mean to layer the private parts. I take it that you are saying I will have to apply the makeup..then go into appearance and reset the face texture like a default to that one..and then come out of appearance and put on my old body with the private parts and then set the body texture default to that skin.

Well as long as the textures you recieved for the body and makeup are separate files, it shouldn't be a problem. But the makeup on your face skin, the nipples/genitals on your body skin.

I was just saying that since you can't layer textures through the appearance box, to highly customize a skin, you'd have to do it manually in a graphic editor or have someone do it for you.

I hope it works out for you and doesn't get too complicated. Welcome to SL, by the way.

You shouldn't have to mess with the texture at all hopefully.

Just go into appearance and find where the boxes for the head and body tattoos (I can't remember if they're called that or not) are. When you click on a box, you get to pick from a drop down list of textures you have in your folders. When you're choosing for the head skin, pick your makeup file/texture. For the body, the genitals one you were given.

Edit: Also, after you have all the texture's looking like you want them while naked, toss on the clothes you want to wear, and save the entire outfit.

Yeah I'm sorry, it's a little hard to describe on the forums without being able to look at the appearance box myself and guide you through it properly.

Can you use a graphic editor like photoshop? It's really not that hard to do if you're familiar with image programs like that. Second Life offers a template that you can work off of to make sure everything 'lines up' on your avatar, as best it can. And when you go to upload your custom textures, you can preview what it looks like on an avatar itself before paying the 10$Lindens and commiting to the upload.

I won't be in world again until later Friday afternoon, Pacific Time. But if you can't get any help with this, I'd be happy to try. I used to fool around with custom tattoos on here, and I do know how to use photoshop myself.

However, I have no experience making nipples or pubic hair, LOL. But it's worth a shot, and could save you a few bucks. I wouldn't be charging for it. And if nothing else, if you IM me in world and I'm on, I can always try guide you through the appearance process in world if you haven't already gotten help with it from someone else by then. Before going the way of making completely new makeup/nudity textures.

Up to you. Contact me sometime if ya like. Happy to help. As of recently, I'm not very busy in world anymore. Plenty of time to do stuff. :D See ya.

I take it you're saying after I come out of the appearance menu then put on the clothes I like... to save them all together in one file to click on to wear all at once instead of having to individually click on each clothing to put them on seperately.

Ahhh okay. I see the problem here. When you come out of appearance naked, and then go and throw on clothes from your clothing file, it must be overwriting your makeup/privates skin because it has the default skin texture on, which is nothing.

Try this:

Toss on your clothes first. Then go into appearance, and while your clothes are on, set your head and body textures to the makeup and privates textures. Then click Make Outfit in the appearance box at the bottom. Call it something different from what the clothes are called IE: "Clothes and Nudity."

It should create an entirely new outfit for you, with your clothes, and the proper skin textures. So that now when you undress, you should have all the right stuff showing and not the plain nude avatar.

And then when you need to dress again, you can just drag that new folder: "Clothes and Nudity" or whatever you called it onto your naked av, and it should be fine for the next time you undress.

Hope that works. :D I'm off to bed for the night. Good luck!

No..you added something about clothing..I don't care really about clothing..I simply want my Facial Makeup to show at the same time as my Nipples/Pubic Hairs at one time when Iam naked..because the avatars face looks ugly without the makeup and the original body skin with the nipples and pubic hairs didn't have the facial makeup..after I put on the makeup..my original body skin with the nipples/pubic hairs went blank.

If you have a full body skin, the makeup/tattoos have to be added to -it-, usually by the creator of the skin. This is usually a combined effort by the skin creator and the makeup/tattoo artist, since the skin creator has to have full permissions of the makeup/tattoo to be added to the skin.

What i am saying is that usually, the skin creator approaches the makeup artist and says "hey, changeling - i have a customer, so and so, who has some of your makeup that they want added to a skin i've made for them. Can you work with me on this?"

In other words, unless it's done for you (or by you, in photoshop) you cannot have a custom skin AND tattoos or makeup by a different creator. You cannot 'layer' skin and tattoos, especially on the face. (you can layer body tattoos over your custom skin if they are created as say.. under clothing.)

Hope that wasn't terribly muddled.

I just want to keep my make up on and I guess use the pubic hair/nipple tatoo to have on my skin from the skin I had on before I put the makeup on. I think the other guy explained that I could do that..if that's not the case...then when every girl buys makeup..then they would have to make sure they have a full body tattoo with the makeup they buy. What would be the point in just buying makeup on your face if it makes your genitals dissappear and then having to take your face off to get naked and then your face is ugly for your partner?

Candy, I just want to add a few comments here to clear up some misconceptions:

In RL you can apply makeup over your skin, so why not here in SL too? That's what I
asked when I first started here in SL. People told me it was impossible, so I proved them wrong.

YES, YOU CAN layer makeup/tattoo layers directly over a skin texture without losing anything in the process. And you don't need to chase down the skin designer and the makeup artist to make an appearance change. It involves dropping the skin texture on the color layer instead of the tattoo layer. It gets a bit technical to describe the process here, so you are welcome to read my full notes on this at Second Skin Labs in Koss (just over 100 meters from the telehub). All you really need to remember is the first sentance of this paragraph.

You are very lucky that you got a free skin early on, but perhaps at a disadvantage since you didn't deal directly with the skin designer. Unless you have the skills to create your own skins and makeup, you ultimately have to go to someone who has those skills in order to get a custom look. That is a fact. Most people learn that the hard way, after they spend thousands of Lindens on a few custom skins. They discover that it costs BIG $$ every time they want to make an appearance change.

You have more options than you think Candy, just take your time, explore your options, and choose wisely, or learn to do for yourself (that is the best option, I think).

NAM
