Sorry for the delay. PayPal continued to post garbage to us until about 7am this morning, and I just finished testing my patches. Please let me know if you find any major problems, and forgive me if you don't get an immediate response - our support log is backed up a bit. NOTE: We now require you to have an avatar 30 days old or older linked to your account before you can deposit cash or L$. I know this is a bit of an inconvenience for some, but it should go a long way towards preventing the types of losses we sustained in the past 24 hours. Cheers. Zep

Zeppi, I suggest you let people who have avatars that are under 30 days be able to do transactions of worth $50 USD or less
It's unlikely anyone would risk defrauding you for that kind of chump change.
On particular reason why I like to do business on the internet for sub $10 products is because I am very rarely a target of CC fraud at those levels.

While I understand what you're saying, in this instance it simply would have limited the loss a bit. This person had amassed a large number of stolen accounts (sounds like Damien got hit with the same guy?). So yes we would have lost less per account, but we still would have lost a bunch. We'll see how many complaints we get. Zep

The problem is that we will have to tell new users to go to IGE rather than GOM because of this new policy.

The 30-day policy won't affect me now, but it would have when I first used GOM to help me buy land. I have a feeling that if someone is bitten by the SL bug, and wants to buy L$, they are going to want to do it within the first 30 days... so they'll have to use IGE from now on. And once they use IGE, what are the odds that they'll ever bother opening a GOM account? I know I don't like having to use multiple accounts... so I've never signed up at IGE.
I hope you find another way of protecting yourself without having to turn away new players... that policy might end up biting you in the ass.

This is exactly what I thought when I read about this new policy. I hope GOM can find another way to protect itself because I think this will just divert more business to IGE.
