A 10 second clip is the max length for a .wav upload.

There are a few freeware programs that will help you cut your wav up to get it to 10 seconds. I just got to work and I can't remember the name of the one I use at home. (I'll IM you tonight if no one has replied by then).

But like Echo said, its the 10 seconds that is the limit, not the size of the file. :)

Good Luck!

Check out a program called virtualdub. It allows you to extract audio tracks as WAV files from MPEG video sources. There are some excellent tutorials on how to do this if you google for "virtualdub WAV extraction".

You may also try Audacity (http://audacity.sourceforge.net) for editing your WAV files.

As mentioned, they must be 10 seconds or less, but I believe they also have to be recorded at 44100 Hz or an upload will not be allowed.

You can chop up an entire song in 10 second .wav bits and then make a script to re-assemble them, but... why?

It used to be the only way to get music in-world, now we have Shoutcast streaming, which is more financially viable.

Chopped up 10 seconds into songs are also an EXTREME source of lag creation. No multicasting is involved and the source of the song? You guessed it, the same server that powers everything else in SL!

There are scripting techniques that will allow you to play sequential 10-second .WAV's. But since the ones that offer the best sound quality, without delays between clips, can cause serious lag to those nearby the object playing the song, I'll leave figuring out how to do so as an exercise to the reader.

Can someone recommend a good way to do what Blake is asking?

I too would like to play some specific music on my property and I'm completely clueless as to how to do this. I have streaming music playing, but I'd like to play a series of specific Native American Music. Is there a way to set up the music on a web site and then access it from SL?

All you need to do is upload the MP3's to your web site. To play them on your land, it is as simple as pointing it to the song. For example, on mine:

http://www.titogomez.net/sound/tito.mp3

You can use any of the numerous jukeboxes available for selecting the songs or manually type in the URL in your land options menu.

You may want to check with your host provider on what are your bandwidth limits before you do this though. I don't have any bandwidth limits so it does not affect me, but it may not be the best option for you.

Another thing to consider, is that music is not synched as it is with shoutcast. If you are in your land, you may be listening to the middle of the song, but if someone is just arriving, they will be listening from the beginning of the song.

Hope I made sense :)
