He's recruiting kids right now as we speak. Save yourselves! Get out your bibles! Burn your sponges in protest! AHHHHH! Please kill me now, please.

A gay alert warning? Wow, is that like the tornado warnings in the midwest? Or is it color coded like our terror alert warning? And if so, is it pink with nice frills? (tasteful of course)

I will never understand any of these people.
Wasn't Donald Duck banned from, like, Norway or something because he was never depicted wearing pants?
What's up, dudes? Where is your common sense?

Therein lies the answer, oh awesome possum. Common sense is ironically not so common.

LMAO - Well... there was this one episode where Patrick and Sponge Bob adopted a little calm and Sponge Bob stayed home and took care of the little clam and did the ironing and cooking and Patrick put on a suit and had a brief case but was not actually going to work...... BUT - if ANYONE is gay on that show everyone know's it's Squidward. Patrick's mind is an engima....

If there's one thing I can't tolerate, it's people not accepting gays, lesbians, bisexuals, or transgendered people. This seems like another attempt for a few people to spread their hatrid of the GLBT community. It's incredibly wrong and I condemn the people who do this.

I agree. These people condemn a video spreading the word of tolerance, and they themselves are spreading the word of hate.

One thing you might want to take into consideration is that these folks sincerely believe that the homosexual agenda, along with a number of other thorny moral issues, collectively pose a grave threat to the American way of life and to the Judeo-Christian value system upon which the nation was founded. For years, I myself bought in to the religious right's rhetoric. I considered my homosexuality to be the product of a fallen world, and tried in vain to purge it from my very soul. Needless to say, that pretty much backfired.
Over the years, as I have come to terms with my status as a gay man, I have also come to realize that the fears I mentioned are large unfounded. Paranoia may imply more of a negative connotation than I intend, but that is really what is fueling this latest gay version of the Salem witch hunts. What is really needed, here, is a sincere and open dialog. We are no better when we generalize about Christians than when they stigmatize gays.

From: Devlin Gallant How come they aren't after Bert and Ernie then? LOL, no doubt! Who knows? I am not -- by any means -- defending the faulty logic of the American Family Association. Really, my point was to caution against demonizing Christendom based on the actions of these interest groups. As much as I am personally offended by these actions, I would hate to see us paint all Christians with one broad stroke.

From: Paolo Portocarrero ... I would hate to see us paint all Christians with one broad stroke. I absolutely agree! I would never generalize all Christians. I am just solidly against organizations like these that make people feel hunted, ashamed, or hatred for themselves. (Not that this incident necessarily would make anyone feel like that; it's just something that these people excel at)

(Not that this incident necessarily would make anyone feel like that; it's just something that these people excel at) Oh, absolutely. It's amazing how narrow-minded groups like this can be. We've definitely seen some very blatant examples of this phenomenon in this esteemed forum. For that matter, there are lots of conservative folk who believe that my status as a gay man invalidates anything I say WRT Christianity. The truth is, I don't hate Christians (I'd have to hate myself, then), the Bible or any of these organizations who fear that my homosexuality is a threat to their utopian vision of a puritanical theocracy. Heck, if the AFA were protesting a LAMBDA-produced video instructing 3rd graders how to perform fellatio on a member of the same sex, I'd be right there with 'em! In my opinion, though, the homosexual issue is only a smokescreen for what really disturbs the AFA: That the video celebrates families of all flavors and persuasions. God forbid that any of us live in anything other than a traditional, nuclear family.

I don't know which notion is more nuts- the idea that Spongebob is part of a gay conspiracy or the idea that a kid will "turn gay" by watching a television show. Now really! The sad thing here is there's probably a few kids who've had their beloved Spongebob dolls yanked from their arms and into the trashcan by parents stupid enough to believe the hype.

After watching the video in its entirety, I have become a lesbian and I'm leaving my bf for my couch who was turned gay after watching the video with me. Strangely, my boyfriend watched it with me and is tolerant of the situation.

Yet another example that the scariest and most dangerous extremeists in the world are not the extremist muslims, but the extremist christians. Blow up a building or two and the general public knows you're nuts, but quietly muster hate and intolerance with an article here, an editorial there, a memo over there, while building your "moral" majority, and no one notices until it's too late and the missles are flying. 500 years ago it was the Inquisition; now it's the "right". Nothing new.

Hey, I feel like stirring up some controversy...Let's switch to the other end of the cartoon religious spectrum. Anybody remember "Davey and Goliath"? They just revived him for a Christmas special (and a Dew commercial) awhile back...I was reading an article about him in the 'related stories' links on MSNBC: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/6693668/Here's the excerpt that really cheered me up, liberal neo-Christian that I am: ---- In the modern update Davey tries to show off his snowboarding prowess to two friends: Sam, a Jewish boy, and Yasmeen, a Muslim girl. Along the way, the three children compare their celebrations of Christmas, Hanukkah and Ramadan. They get into some trouble, of course, but it’s all resolved in the end. And Yasmeen wins the snowboarding race. The lesson of respect for other religions is purposeful. Clokey credited his agent, Patrick Lauerman, for developing the concept in the anguished days following the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks. Clokey is concerned that the message that God loves all people has been lost amid more judgmental religious fare. “The church wanted it to be about love and tolerance, and that’s not the face of Christianity in America,” he said. “In the ’60s and ’70s, Christianity was more of a liberal faction. There are still millions of liberal Christians who go to church, but they are not represented on TV anymore.” ---- *sigh* I want to be a hippie Christian!
