Actually.. one I really did enjoy was when they refunded our taxes back at the advent of 1.2! Man, that really WAS payday. Who knew I had 32k's worth of stuff rezzed? lol

No, but you need L$ to upload any new images, sounds, or animations. For some people (content creators using anything but Linden-supplied content), the lack of L$ would certainly put the kibosh on their enjoyment.

In a nutshell.

Uhhh, let me see..... L$10 to upload. And on a Basic Account I'm making L$50/week. So week 1 I can upload 5 textures / sounds. In addition to acquiring over 300 FREE Textures from TLC, YadNi's Junkyard, and other places.

I make an object, sell it for L$50. Second week, now I have L$100 - I can upload ten more textures!

How many freakin' textures do you need? I'm a long-time mapper with FPS games; and have been crafting in SL for the last 2+ weeks - so far I've uploaded 3 textures (and two of them are pictures of me for my profile)! I've made lamps, a huge pool, and am working on a strategy-game (that's where the 3rd texture went)...

The only instance for constant texture-uploading that I can see, is people who make clothes / jewelry and take snapshots of folks modelling their wares. But they can easily make that cost up the first time they sell a copy of that object.

Oh; and this ignores all ratings bonuses (yes they're getting cut, but not removed completely yet).

AND, the bottom-line is still this:
Free/Basic Account-Holders cost LindenLab real US$ - in bandwidth and upkeep. It is right and proper that they are at a disadvantage, compared to Premium-Account holders. Premium Accounts are what support the infrastructure needed to run SL - and the more paying customers, the better for all of us! Basic Account-Holders serve to expand the user-base and provide a place for people to be creative & add to the culture on SL, even if they don't have US$ to throw at an MMO every month (Ten bucks to download and play for free forever is way more than any other MMO product provides!)... Having a difference between them, monetarily speaking, provides incentives for people to upgrade - and pushes paying customers to stay active and spread their money around the virtual SL economy.

SL provides thousands of social opportunities and experiences that you can't get anywhere else - and almost all of them are free! Shopping for luxury items, gambling, and paying entrance fees (to the few events that cost L$) are the only activities that require an expenditure of L$.

I dunno what you all are talking about... make an object and sell it for L$50? I've made lots of objects and a lot of tshirts and I haven't sold a one. And they are priced less than L$50.

I do more building of places (well, one place in particular) than of things. Hard to put a place up for sale for $50 and yet still keep it to build on. I don't sell anything, really. Yeah, I know, my own fault if I don't put out the effort to sell... but then I also hear many tales of people putting stuff up for sale and never selling a single item.



It appears you do not make animations. Sometimes I upload iterations of the same animation 4-5 or more times befroe everything looks right.

I'm not saying we need our stipends to not be reduced or whatever. I made a counter-point example to Talen saying that you don't need L$ to have fun. He made a blanket statement that does not apply to everyone, as he seems to imply.
