Hi!

I'm from Europe (EU)/Hungary, and I'll visit the USA, New York City, for a week starting 13th of March. It will be actually my second time in the US, the previous was 16 years ago (no, I'm not THAT old, still in my twenties :-).

Anyway, if anyone has some tips, or might want to join me for a coffee sometime just post here or IM me in-game!

Actually, I already bought a tourist guide, but it's very thick, didn't even begin to read and plan yet. What places are good to visit in March in NYC? Any "must see's" or tips? I might try to see a club, too, maybe, though that might be too pricey, dunno.

Thanks!

While I live in the NYC area (a suburb), I don't know anything about being a tourist in NY. It's hard to be a tourist in the city you live in. My only advice is to bring a nice, warm coat.

Okay, I'll try and give you a bit of advice :P

As for places to visit, I can only really tell you the places you'd probably visit without me even telling you...Central Park, Times Square, Statue of Liberty, Empire State Building. You may also want to go to Ellis Island (it's the same ferry as to Libery Island, home of the Statue of Liberty). Incase you don't know, Ellis Island is where millions of immigrants from Europe & other places entered the U.S. It was closed many years ago, and is now a very nice museum. You may also want to take the NBC tour at Rockefeller Center (where the ice skating rink is). I've done that, it's fun.

I don't know the city well enough to really be a help. Hopefully someone else who has spent more time exploring the city can chime in. ;)

Circle Line! Depending on the weather, a Circle Line cruise is lovely. I recommend the 3 hour tour (ha ha) that goes around the whole island of Manhattan. If you're trying do cheap things, take the Staten Island Ferry, that's free!

Wander around Chinatown. Little turtles being sold out of happy bright plastic buckets was one of the most memorable first impressions. Apparently they're snacks! :O

I would highly suggest seeing a Broadway play. Check out the booth (I forget the name, but it's a big ticket booth with tons of people there, opens at like 3 or 4 pm, can't miss it) in Times Square for discount tickets the day of the show. Anyway, these are some of things that I did my first visit to NYC, and I never left!

The Manhattan Zoo is in Central Park. It's a nice zoo to spend a few hours in...nice and small. So much to do!

The subway is an experience, of course...but you see much more on busses. Anyway, have fun, and don't blink :D

Thanks for the tips and keep it coming :-)

While I do have a book, it's way better if you highlight this and that instead of me accidentally skipping the valuable parts in the book because it's soooooo big :-)

You should definitely visit the museums in Manhattan (e.g., The Metropolitan Museum of Art, The Museum of Modern Art and Guggeheim). If you are into medieval art and architecture, you should definitely check out the Cloisters. Even if you are not, it's really beautiful and relaxing there.

Oooh and do check out South Street Seaport for the cruise and shopping.

Hmm...what else? Check out FAO Schwartz on Fifth Avenue, the ultimate toy store! It's the cutest store on earth! Giant teddy bears and other terribly cute stuff. Tiffany's is not that far from there. You can pretend you are getting married and try on some ridiculously expensive but gorgeous diamond rings. :o

Echo on the museums.

If you want to see Broadway show (which I highly recommend) and you are on a budget, you can go to "TICKETS" - which is outside in the middle of Times Square. You wait on line and get two for the price of one tickets on same day shows. Great deal.

Eat at Blue Smoke for ribs, and Los Dos Molinos for mexican. The Hayden Planetarium up on 81st by the park is a good time. Try to go shopping on Saint Marks Street, some great goth/punk clothes and the people watching is alot of fun.

a nice touristy website for you to check out:

You can even search for events on the dates you will be in the city.

I love SOHO best:
