Is it just me, or do we need more sandboxes?

I was online yesterday looking for a place to set down the house that I was working on and couldn't find a big enough spot. There was stuff and people all over the Linden sandboxes, which is good! Just not if you have a house that needs to be completed. I ended up using a private sandbox where only one or 2 people were working on small things.

I think sandboxes need to be added as the population grows.

Edit to add: was this the most boring post or what?

The last time I was in Cordova regularly (a few weeks ago), what I noticed was that there were two groups of people using the sandboxes. One group was using them to develop/test stuff they couldn't or shouldn't develop on thier own land (or near their neighbors). Another was using it more like a public RL sandbox, and had pretty much set up permanent residence there to play. What I wondered was, maybe it would make more sense to have seperate sandbox sims for development/testing and for playing. Not that there's always a clear distinction between the two :) But maybe that would also help alleviate crowding in the sandboxes.

They should be able to play in the vehicle sims but they can't rez a vehicle there, except in some spot that I couldn't find easily. Correct me if I'm wrong about that. But if its true, then that's a pain in the butt for someone who wants to ride around in a new vehicle and can't find a place to rez it easily. So I can see why people tend to like to use sandboxes for their cars and testing weapons. Lots of flat space and easy targets in the sandboxes.

People who like to test vehicles in sandboxes are just too lazy to do it in the vehicle sims. And, folks who like to test weapons in the sandboxes are griefers. :)

I too have noticed sandbox overcrowding at times. The biggest problem I think it people just leaving their creations there when they're done for the day. I can only assume they do this for ego reasons as they know it's going to get wiped eventually. I think we could do with having them wiped a bit more frequently.

i remember when there was only 1 sandbox.. it was busy but not too bad. Then they added a few more, over night it was as if every1 began to use sandboxes.. very strange :/

but anyway. How about if a resident needed a sadbox, they can temporarilly rez a sim that no1 can get to and its theirs for a set time?

I guess I'll just lodge my annual plea for a personal sandbox that I can mess with offline.

Really, you have no idea what kind of money I'd spend you you, LL, if you made this happen.

Please?

The sandboxes should clean stuff more often, and as soon as someone leaves them, too.

The sad thing Eggy, is I used to disagree with this...but...with fewer 'oh wow' things being left in the sandboxes....I'd have to agree..

Boy, does that bum me out.

You know Alan that would be kewl Rent a Sim for 2k a day. That would be equivalent to the current exchange rate for the cost of tier.

To me that would be more Benificial because a blank sim with nothing in it you could effectively test specific scripts and would be well worth the cost to make Lagless scripts in and such.

But thats just an Idea.

Ingrid, you are welcome to use The Learning Center grounds in Mauve as a sandbox, I'm reworking this area, the entire ground level will be a public sandbox.

Currently we have an auto-return of 3 hours so you should always be able to find a space :)

We also have a smaller sandbox in Celadon, however the auto-return is 6 hours.

I still go to sandboxes. Sometimes it's pretty crowded on the ground, so I rez a prim and build a platform for myself at 300 or 400 meters. Sometimes the plaform I have is just 10x10. On bigger projects, I'd make it 60x60m or something like that. I don't bother going to the ones with scripts enabled. I find them laggy sometimes and loud explosions every now and then tend to be distracting. :)

I'd like to have more sandboxes with no scripts enabled. So it's just meant for people building stuff and not testing anything.

Isn't Rausch a sandbox? I always see it's empty. I'm always curious about that place whenever I see it. But the last time I tried to fly to it, my computer crashed the moment my big toe crossed the border.

Rausch is not safe. I used to try to build there (to create boxes for my skins) because it was the only Mature sandbox I could find, but despite making friends with the various gun-toting denizens, I got blasted off to home way too many times. It's pretty much impossible to build there. :)

Hmmm ... I'm determined. I vow I will plant my ass in Rausch one of these days. And rez at least 6 prims before someone comes along and blasts me back to Timbuktu. Bring it!!!

No wait. Don't bring it. Me just wants to build. Don't shoot! :o :p

Sandboxes are for those who are just starting out or who need a place to try out an idea when it's not a good idea to use it in a regular sim (i.e. it might crash the sim).

If you are using the sim as "free land" or becuase you are too cheap to buy your own land, then move on. You are just leeching off the rest of us.

Huh? Who you mad at?

Eff that. There's no disclaimer in the Linden's sandboxes that says "hey everyone can build here 'cept you, you, and especially you." Maybe Morris ... But the rest of the sandboxes are open for primhogs, l33tz0r scripters, and dorks like me who sit and stew there for some inspiration. :p

I secured a 16sqm parcel in an adjacent sim just for that purpose, if I ever build there, I just set home to it, and just fly back. Just some times are better for that than others.

Rez areas
02-14-2005 19:20
Ingrid, you are welcome to come to Jai-By-The-Sea, a new newbie residential area in Furness with a big square for rezzing. In fact, I think we have a puzzle contest soon of one of your houses that fell apart when someone you know tried to edit your house in between sim seams *ahem*? So you could come and supervise this game of 52 House Pick Up ROFL.

There's also room in Alston and Carlisle in our rental communities, you don't have to buy or rent, you can just rez. Sometimes the neighbors are a bit horrified that it's getting "all built up" but if they ever want to see good houses in SL they need to let people get their rezzing out LOL.

Duh, its a pain in the ass.

Anywho, I agree with Lashy. I'd like another no script sandbox. Rausch needs to stay, as its the only place for gun loving people to blast each other legally. The vehicle sims need to stay too, but both need to be promoted a bit more in world. I'm sure alot of players don't know what Rausch and Brilliant and Fame are for.
