Greetings:

Is there any method for purchasing lindens without have to go through paypal whatsoever. IGE's credit card processing is down, so that is not an option. I've had a falling out with paypal and refuse to go through them. Does anyone know of any other site/seller that sells lindens through standard credit card transactions without going through paypal's servers. Other than IGE also, since they are not accepting credit card payments at this time...Thanks

There are only 3 sellers of L$ right now (unless there is a person selling them that is not a "business";). GOM, IGE, and AnsheChung.com. IGE is the only one that currently accepts credit card payements.

The Lindens are currently working on a system that will be in the SL UI where you can purchase L$ in world through their system. At that time, it would just charge the cost to the credit card you used to sign up with SL.

Sorry I can't be more help! :(

I've predominately used IGE, but try GOM, not sure if they take credit cards or not though.

I don't know if this helps any, but I too cancelled my PayPal account after hearing many stories of consumer and merchant difficulties with them.

I recently purchased an audio disc that was available only through PayPal and was surprised to see that PayPal accepts (at least in the case of this merchant) payments either with a PayPal account or with direct sumbission of credit card information. True, it doesn't keep PayPal from getting their stained hands on my information but it required neither a paypal account nor that horrific "paypal verified" process whereby you have to sign your first born to them. I just attempted an (aborted) purchase of L$ through www.gamingopenmarket.com and it appears that they will accept such transactions. I aborted the transaction as I don't need the L$, so I don't know that it would have completed, just that it looked like it could have.

For the curious, the reason I broke my PayPal resolve was to purchase SL's own Frogg Marlowe's disc because I wasn't going to let my disdain for PayPal get in the way of supporting a fine musician (see www.froggmarlowe.com if interested).

Well, I can't use paypal because of a debt I have with them which not my fault and I refuse to pay. But that's not either here or there.

GOM has other ways of depositing money.

From: someone

Add funds (PayPal, e-gold, check or money order)

These stories always interest me. I have had a paypal account since they converted the XBank accounts (did anyone have an XBank Account? LOL) to paypal accounts in the late 1990s. I have never had issues with them and have used them for my eBay business and my RL consulting business. My friend had her account frozen and had some issues with them, but she broke the rules, so she deserved it.

On a slightly scewed topic...

Since GOM seems to charge the 2.9% + .30 paypal fee
no matter WHICH deposit method is used...

Does anyone know of other alternatives to get around
those rather high fees? Anshe and IGE are not the answer
since you end up paying a lot more for $L than you do
going with GOM and the fees.

Thanks,
Gabrielle

Last time I checked:
ANSHECHUNG.COM: 50000 L$ 182.99 US$
GOM: 50000 L$ (best buy rate: 3.50) 180.55 US$ including deposit fees

There have also been times when L$ price at both IGE and ANSHECHUNG.COM was actually better than GOM. I suggest to always take look at current rates, then decide, as GOM goes up and down a lot while the other sites tend to me more stable.

I also think GOM's fees are very fair, since those 3% they charge are actually the PayPal fees. You won't be able to avoid those fees. At IGE and ANSHECHUNG.COM they are included in the price, but PayPal has to get paid one way or another.

I am having trouble believing so many people still use PayPal considering they treat both their buyers and sellers like dirt when there are any problems (such as money goes missing from bank accounts, or accounts are flagged and frozen because ONE person complained unjustly).

I refer you to http://paypalsucks.com in which you can read these terrible stories.

I myself have been unable to get anything to work with my PayPal account because they keep asking for my bank account number so my account can continue. I only wanted to use a credit card to pay for things, not potentially sign away my entire savings.

Luckily I bought some $L with IGE without them, and I am very thankful for this.

Yes, Anshe.
I do always compare prices of GOM, Anshe, and IGE.
And if your site offered the best rates I would
not hesitate to buy :)

However, I've been interested in putting US$1,000
in to $L which means the Paypal fees would
eat up US$30.20 at GOM. That leaves US$969.80
for buying $L. While I made the original post the
best "Buy Now" rate was actually $3.48 per block,
but the best "Wanted" rate was $3.45, so if I would
have posted a Wanted order I could have bought
280 blocks with some change left over.

If I would have spent US$1000 at Anshe, your best
deal is L$50,000 for US$182.99 which comes to
US$3.6598 per block (L$1000). We divide that in
to my US$1000 and find I can buy 273 blocks from
you.

So, unless I've done my math wrong, I get L$7,000
more from GOM right now for the same money.

Also, your site says you don't accept orders over
US$300/wk ... so I couldn't even do that if I wanted.

Now, don't get me wrong... when your prices ARE
better than GOM I will take it, but not until then. :)

However...
REALLY, my question about an alternative to Paypal
was trying to get around that huge fee... which
is going to eat US$30.20 ... which could have
paid for another L$8,000.

certainly there should be a better way.

My problem with PayPal is how every time I try to accept a money transfer, they nag me with 2 screens about adding a bank account...

... only to complain later that they do not support israeli banks.

I contacted their support team and asked if I can somehow turn off the "Add a bank account!" page, and their reply was that as long as I do not register a bank account, I will continue to receive the nag.

When I said that I -cannot- add a bank account since they do not accept israeli accounts, they just shruged and said "Sorry, nothing we can do. Perhaps you can get an account at a bank in a supported country, such as England?"

And the sad thing is, they were very serious.

If you would like you can use http://www.e-gold.com/ or you can use check or money order to pay into GOM. I know with the check or money order it can take about 2 weeks to get your money, and I have never used e-gold so I am not sure about them. I am not sure if there is any other way to get L$ for cash. If neither of these will work for you, you can always contact Tom or Jamie at GOM and ask if there is another way to deposit money.

Contact them? Maybe they will work with you if it is a large amount? GOM is still cheaper then most, even with the fee.

Remember that the fee applies to ALL retailers accepting PayPal. The only difference is that GOM seperates it out whereas the others add it into the price...

It depends on which Linden you want. Robin and Jeska can be bought on Paypal, but Philip is only available on EBay. :D
