I know this problem might have been addressed previously, but I'm not sure. Ever since I want to say a month after using SL(if you know me in game I've been on for a while) on my mac I had this recurring issue with my mini map turing its normal gray and green, to a strange crimson red. Now so people would say well turn you mini map off, and that will solve you concern. Well in normal circumstances I would but i've noticed something else happen after my mini map turns red, which is my AV turns into a diminutive Caucasian female with the basic male AV hair. now I don't have a problem with my AV changing sexes on the fly, but it does concern me when I can't control it. I have supplied a picture for those that simply don't believe me, or those that are curious:

I usually have the same thing happen after idling for a long time.

I think the "red" means that the servers are no longer sending you data. Which means you've been booted for being AFK, but SL never told you.

Red mini-maps have SOMETHING to do with crashing.

Yes, the red mini-map seems to be indicative of a very high ping, on the order of seconds (rather than mili-seconds.) (Watch your Alt-1 screen.)

And the diminutive female is Ruth. AV Mother of us all. Gone but never forgotten. The true ghost in the machine.

Personally I haven't had a Ruth possession in several versions.

Ruth is SLs Oracle. She wages a constant war against the Lindens, to help set the players free. Sometimes, she needs to take posession of one of us to save us from the Lindens and their agents. She makes nice biscuits too.

LOL Sio this was too cute... hmmm better not drop any of ther vases, though. altho if you did, she knew that it was gonna go Physical and Unlink. she can predict sim crossings and botched teleports too -- in fact, that's when she likes to take possession.

i've had the mini-map go red when something goes wrong and then i freeze in place and can't walk around anymore. i'll try to be patient, but usually this is quite dire for me and necessitates a relog.
