No one ever seems to complain about those, yet they are just as if not more so than any bling I have ever seen.

I've only ever seen the spam from them at telehubs.

Then again, I don't get out much.

The one I have spams very little and only as a reaction to an action I cause. Infact it spams less then many male prim items I have.

They spam ? To chat ?

What, sort of like :
"debase thyself before me thou miserable mass of fecal matter from a mangy dog. Wipe my toenails clean with the whites of thy despicable eyes."

Something like that ?

No for example when you change the length the sub can be from the Dom the collar will erply the length was changed. Also alot of the commands are done in regular chat as well so if you want to force the sub into a position like kneel then the command has to be typed in public for all to see. I think it has to do with the fact that the command is being done from a distance. Also intial setup commands usually spam as well to indicate the change was made.

I have a sword that shouts

"BY THE SACRED TOENAIL CLIPPINGS OF JRR TOLKEIN YOU'LL PAY FOR THAT, HELLSPAWN!"

when drawn and

"YEA VERILY DID I CLEAVE HIS HEAD ASUNDER!"

when it hits someone..

Unforunately thats all it does - all my weapons are non-violent.

Siggy.

having made a few simmilar things myself, one reason i used whispers instead of private im's is because llInstantMessage(); causes a short sleep in the script, and if you're sending things to both a master and a pet, these delays can add up. As an example, say you have a long list of animations you can play, like in a dance machine. it could take quite a while with all the delays between im's to privately send them only to the owner, so i used whispers which spit out without delay. If you're just talking to the person wearing the object, you can use llOwnerSay, but if you're printing out any long lists of information to another player on request, im's just take too long. if they ever get rid of the delay on certain lsl functions such as IM, i'd love to change the way my scripts work to not spam others o.o

I'm currently in the process of rewriting my own products that have this 'chattiness' to take advantage of the new llOwnerSay() command and to implement control via dialogs where possible. If you've seen the # of items I have on sale though, you'll note that due to volume it's going to take me a little while :p

Just to buck the trend, I'm going to switch from llWhisper to llShout. :D

Oh, I complain. They annoy the PISS out of me.

With v1.6, there's not reason not to use:

llOwnerSay(...)

in most cases where people are using:

llSay(0,...)

This will only IM the owner of the object, and doesn't have a delay on it like llInstantMessage(llGetOwner,...) did. SO CHANGE YOUR SCRIPTS! Give your buyers free, better upgrades! Be a good scripting citizen...

and get your listens off of channel 0 already, a lot of us are sick of frickin' script commands on the chat channel for spam reasons, AND lag reasons!

I love you all, still. </rant>

Sometimes if you buy a scripted object it doesn't allow the user to modify it to say otherwise, sometimes things spam simply because there's no other choice, unless you want to wait weeks and weeks have something simple done.

I just ignore it for the most part, like everything else.

EinsAmig0, I was referring more to the scripters creating these things than anyone who buys and uses them.

If you're good enough to code something as complex as a master / slave collar system, you should be a good enough scripter to realize open channel listeners add to both chat spam and lag... I guess that's a better way of stating the point I was trying to get across. :-)

Take care,

-Flip

A nuisance we can all do without.

I agree, Flipper, that spamming collars can be annoying as well as many other scripted objects that cause spamming. I don't ever wear a collar that spams open channels, well, not unless I am told to! *chuckles* Thankfully, neither Alexin nor I care for collar spamming. Besides, Wwe both prefer active submission over passive submission.
