Once again, I can't sign in. Of course when I managed it yesterday it was basically unplayable because of the crushing lag. Everytime they make "improvements" this game gets less and less playable. At this rate, I won't bother playing at all soon...

Wait for it... Wait for it...
Log in is temporarily screwed. We are being qued and log in now takes about 3 or 4 minutes. Hopefully, this will pass soon.

Nope, I've tried 6 times so far. I don't get so much as an error message. It just gets stuck on "processing inventory" and then quits after waiting about 4 minutes. NOT impressed...

Yes, I can confirm it took about the length of a song on the radio for me to get in. DON'T force quit SL, or you'll effectively add to the queue-jam while making another attempt. Rather, let it persist... and just do something else in the meantime.

Can't get there
01-03-2005 17:54
I can't sign in, either. Can't get there, from here. I have been idle for a while, now, over the holidays, now, I can't play in the SecondLife play ground. Boo and hoo.

Things happen, a lot of people didn't get sleep trying to get the loggins working. We all know there is an issue, and there is work being done about it. The last thing LL wants is the grid to be inexcessable, to think otherwise is just lame, and smells of tinfoil hat!
Sure being an addict (I'm a new one) sucks but it is what it is. Just be glad there are people willing to put long hours in to give you what you get from SL. Instead of yelling, screaming, and blaming. Lets just let the lindens do their thing. When they can get it up they will. They aren't punishing us. And believe it or not it hurts them financially more than it hurts any of us. Not to mention they are by far one of the best developlers out there today, in terms of listening to their customers.
Sorry, and I really don't mean to sound mean or whatever, text often mis-leads. But enough whining people. Its sucks I know, but as a collective we can't do a damn thing about it. LL doesn't suck, I commend them for the work that they do and have done. I've worked for a few developers (EA is one of the worst) and its all about the $ and what the customer thinks/cares is of little concern to them. But to the lindens thats a differant story.
End of rant...

Kinda looks like growing pains to me. We are supposed to be getting a new rendering engine and Havok 2 this year. It may get worse before it gets better. Hopefully, the end result will be worth the (temporary) frustration. Nearly two years of SL has shown me that the Lindens do actually care about their work.

why SL is so buggy
01-03-2005 18:14
to be honest, im surprised SL hasn't had more problems than it already has. Lets face it, the inherent traffic flow design of SL was flawed from the very beggining! Unlike other online games, SL allows its users to create almost infinitely many objects in each sim. from a design standpoint, its almost impossible to figure out which sim is going to have the most lag, and therefore need the most backup at any given time. a network in which users are able to modify its contents at thier whims would have to be extremely dynamic.
in other words, any failure to function on SL's part, is likely caused by a failure on our part to understand the systems limitations.
thats my ranting for now, because i finnally logged into SL!
